While we struggle as a nation to stay on our feet despite the mismanagement of our national debt and the number of people sliding into poverty as a result of fascism, one of the greatest scams of all times has unfolded right before our very eyes.  This scam only slightly more disgusting than the global warming/climate change/man-made climate change, or whatever the current and ever changing buzzword is this week to describe “weather” patterns.  Now we have “dependence on foreign oil”….Yep! That’s the one!

One of the greatest all-time scams perpetrated by the oil cartels and our government is the idea that we do not produce enough gas and oil products to make us energy independent.  The fact is, we do and we always have.

According to various reports, the export of fuel in 2011 from U.S. refiners topped the markets at 117 million gallons per day of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other petroleum products, up from 40 million gallons per day a decade earlier.  For the first time in our history gas and oil EXPORTS were the top of the export list although they have been in the top ten exports for years!

Wait a minute!  I thought we needed to drill more!  I thought we didn’t have enough gas and oil produced domestically for us to be independent from foreign oil imports!  But we got 117 million gallons of refined fuels to ship out to other countries every single day of the week?  365 days a year?  More

Theory Conspiracies, or Early Warnings?

Appearing in today’s news:

Two California state senators announced Friday that they will hold hearings to probe what caused the San Bruno natural gas explosion and how such a disaster can be prevented in the future.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — California regulators are ordering Pacific Gas and Electric to survey all its natural gas lines in the state in the wake of a devastating suburban San Francisco blast that killed at least four.

Too little? Certainly too late!

Last February, I wrote:

Feb 3, 2010 … A natural gas line installed through a sewer line caused the blast that charred a St. Paul home, according to state investigators.

Feb 24, 2010 … A natural gas explosion blew apart a home located near West 50th Street

Unfortunately, this is a story repeated too many times during every heating season.

If a foreign power mandated that natural gas be piped into virtually every home in the northern half of the contiguous United States, we would be in the streets with torches and pitchforks.

NATURAL GAS IS NOT A SAFE HEATING FUEL. When I’ve had a choice, and certainly when I’ve built my own home, my instructions were to cap the natural gas out in the street, as far away from my lodgings as they could get.

Wake up, fellow citizens. Get some realistic controls over this heating fuel, especially in the “freeze-thaw” parts of our country, or run these captains of corporations off to jail and out of business.

Remember – That conspiracy theory six months ago often becomes today’s headlines.

Gasland: The Movie

Welcome To GASLAND

About the film

“The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of “fracking” or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a “Saudia Arabia of natural gas” just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown.”

GASLAND will be broadcast on HBO through 2012. To host a public screening in your community please click here. The DVD will be on sale in December 2010.
