How Steve Hixon fought Monsanto

By Debbie Coffey

This is in memory of our friend, Steve Hixon, who was one of the last “seed cleaners” in the United States.

Steve was a real American hero.  He stood up against Monsanto for many years.  He spoke out.  He informed the public about the ways that agricultural technology companies had appropriated public resources and filed patents from seed germ plasm from (taxpayer funded) public universities.

Seed cleaners played an important role in helping farmers save their seeds for planting the next year.  They have equipment that sifts the plant materials and “clean” it so that the seeds are separated out and can be given back to farmers to use the next season (at less cost than Monsanto’s seeds).  Steve designed and built several versions of the seed cleaning machine he used.  Seed cleaners have been nearly wiped out since the introduction of GMO proprietary seeds.

The Monsanto Hearings were public tribunals where people presented testimony regarding the harmful impact that the Monsanto corporation has had on America’s food, farms, communities, and ecosystems.

You can see Steve speak at the Monsanto hearings HERE.

Steve Hixon tried to protect American farmers and our food.  More than that, Steve was a great friend, one of the “good guys” and an American hero.  He will be missed.

The Foods We Consume Might Actually Be Killing Us

Dr. John Reizer

According to many health care experts, it’s getting increasingly difficult to stay healthy due to the types of foods we continue to consume as a society.

Food additives such as Aspartame and MSG (Monosodium glutamate) are believed by many to cause irreparable harm to human beings. Despite the large number of warnings coming from scientists and doctors, large corporations continue to oversee the lacing of our foodstuffs with harmful chemicals.

Aspartame, a controversial artificial sweetener, has been classified by some doctors and medical researchers as a neuro-excitotoxin capable of causing harmful lesions within the human nervous system. Russell Blaylock, a retired neurosurgeon and former professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, is one of the physicians that has publicly stated his views about the dangers of this product.

Aspartame was introduced into food products and soft drinks, around the world, by the pharmaceutical company, G.D. Searle during the same time frame that Donald Rumsfeld, former Defense Secretary of the United States, was the company’s acting CEO. Later, Searle was taken over by Monsanto, a corporation believed by many to have very close ties to the CIA.

Duty to Warn

new-logo25kohlsGary G. Kohls, MD

clip_image002[2],,,

Four specially-equipped US Air Force cargo planes spraying a Vietnamese triple canopy forest with dioxin-contaminated Agent Orange during what the Vietnamese called the “American War” (those aren’t benign “contrails”, they’re toxic “chemtrails”)

50 years ago this next month (December 1965), with the urging of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the rubber stamp approval of President Lyndon Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, the United States Air Force started secretly spraying the forests of Laos with a deadly herbicide that was known as Agent Orange.

Operation Ranch Hand, whose motto was “Only We Can Prevent Forests” (a shameful takeoff of Smokey the Bear’s admonition), was a desperate, costly and ultimately futile effort to make it a little harder for the National Liberation Front soldiers from North Vietnam to join and supply their comrades-in-arms in the south. Both the guerilla fighters in the south and the NLF army had been fighting to liberate Vietnam from the exploitive colonial domination from foreign nations such as imperial France (that began colonizing Vietnam in 1874), then Japan (during WWII), then the United States (since France’s expulsion after their huge military defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954) and then against its own nation’s US-backed fascist/military regime in South Vietnam that was headed by the brutal and corrupt President Diem.

(Incidentally, the nepotism in the US-backed, Roman Catholic Diem’s iron-fisted rule was almost laughable, with one brother being the Catholic Archbishop of Vietnam, a second brother being in charge of the Hue district, and a third brother being the co-founder of the only legal political party in South Vietnam [as well as Diem’s principal adviser]. It needs to be pointed out that true democracies do not criminalize political parties.)

The aim of the National Liberation Front was to unite the north and the south portions of the country and free it from the influence and occupation of foreign invaders. The leader of the liberation movement since its beginning was Ho Chi Minh, who had made sincere appeals to both President Woodrow Wilson (after WWI had weakened France’s colonial system) and President Harry Truman (after the Japanese had taken over Vietnam during WWII and then surrendered to the US in 1945).

Each appeal asked for America’s help to liberate Vietnam from their French colonial oppressors, and each one fell on deaf ears, even though Ho Chi Minh had frequently incorporated the wording and spirit of America’s Declaration of Independence in his continuous efforts to achieve justice for his suffering people.

“The USDA added, however, that due to “cost concerns,” it did not test for residues of glyphosate. Let’s repeat that: they never tested for the active ingredient in the most widely used herbicide in the world. “Cost concerns”? How absurd—unless they mean it will cost them too much in terms of the special relationship between the USDA and Monsanto.

Why? Evidence points to glyphosate toxicity from the overuse of monshop_deesMonsanto’s Roundup herbicide on our food. In a 2011 article about Tetra Tech, a company hired by the BLM to prepare BLM Resource Management Plans and Environmental Assessments, it was revealed that Hugh Grant, the Chairman and CEO of Monsanto, is on Tetra Tech’s Board of Directors, and that Tetra Tech also has ties to mining interests.

In September, 2013, Tetra Tech was given a $48 million contract to help the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with it’s Superfund Program.  Tetra Tech also received another contract in July, 2013, worth $50 million for “technical assistance” on Superfund sites.

In the EPA’s Superfund database, as of 2012, Monsanto is associated with 11 “active” Superfund sites and 20 “archived” sites in the United States. Monsanto has been sued, and has settled, multiple times for damaging the health of its employees or residents near its Superfund sites through pollution and poisoning.

Mining companies have also caused many Superfund sites.

It seems the polluters are now cleaning up on the cleanup. More

GM-biohazard-300x223GM-biohazard Help us put an end to this underhanded end-run around the courts once and for all. Urgent Action Alert!

As you know, last March, what the world has been calling the “Monsanto Protection Act” was inserted at the last minute into a “must-pass” funding bill to keep the government running through the use of a congressional tool known as a Continuing Resolution (CR). The so-called Farmer Assurance Provision—misnamed because, frankly, the only ones who are assured about anything are GMO manufacturers like Monsanto—actually strips federal courts of the authority to halt the sale and planting of potentially hazardous genetically engineered crops while USDA is performing an environmental impact statement. It’s a huge blow to the justice system, completely overriding judicial safeguards that protect both farmers and the public. More

This Monsanto Courtesy Notice has been drafted, filed and published on the worldwide web in support of the March on Monsanto scheduled for May 25, 2013. This is an international action, by which the people of the world are asserting their sovereign right, that of our planet and all life upon her to have pure food and water, as well as the freedom to live without the insidious interference of those who would control us.

This new paradigm legal document can be used anywhere in the world as given, with only the name and address of the filer being changed. It can be filed most effectively by sending it to each of the listed recipients via certified/registered/international mail, with email being an obvious but less impressive alternative; all of the recipients’ private, for-profit corporate websites have contact webforms. This public interest courtesy notice can also be followed up by sizable invoices from each of us to each corporate recipient, if certain objectionable activities do not quickly cease and desist.

Legal Matter: US Government Imposition of Monsanto’s Toxic Products on the American People and the People of the World

Whereas, the Monsanto Company, as a transnational purveyor of agricultural biochemical technology, has been incestuously incorporated into the US government since the Second World War, with its corporate agents being widely employed as federal legislators, lobbyists and agency/court officials;

US Government-Monsanto Corporate Ties

Whereas the vast majority of federal legal and administrative rulings have overwhelmingly favored Monsanto, despite the obvious merits of those public interest cases brought against this corporation for its toxic products of DDT, Agent Orange, Roundup, Saccharin, Aspartame, bovine growth hormone, genetically modified organisms/food, genetic patenting. terminator seeds and its organic seed bank fortress in the Arctic, as well as massive cancer clusters, crop failures, destruction of small farms, rainforests, public lands, farm lands, clean water and biodiversity, farmer suicides, and irremediable corruption of governments throughout the world;

The letter below was received from Rep. Collin Peterson, 7th District, Minnesota.  Peterson’s 1267436152letter details his love of gmo’s and his belief that no science exist to substantiate the claims that gmo is harmful to human health.  With numerous countries around the world banning the use of gmo seeds, the importing of gmo products into their countries, and the massive number of scientific studies that were actually done to document the threat to the environment and public health that these frankenfood creations are causing, it appears Mr. Peterson is oblivious to all.  Makes you wonder what planet this guy is on.

Mr. Peterson’s comments are in black.

My responses are in blue.

Dear Mr. Oakley:

Thank you for contacting my office about genetically engineered foods. I appreciate hearing from you.

Dear Mr. Peterson:  I doubt that you appreciate hearing from me or anyone else who isn’t on the bio-piracy wagon.  I am fully aware that this is a very lucrative association for you , not only politically, but personally as well.

Since the first genetically engineered crops became commercially available in the mid-1990s, U.S. soybean, cotton, and corn farmers have rapidly adopted them.

Farmers have not rapidly adopted genetically engineered crops unless you considered being coerced, bullied, terrorized, threatened with lawsuits or finding that bio-pirates such as Monsanto have monopolized the market and have the Supreme Court of The United States firmly in their pocket and also a cushy little seat in the White House to protect their interests, willing adoption of these crops.

Since that time there has been no scientific evidence suggesting that these crops are harmful. More

While it was amusing when Secretary Salazar recently threatened to punch out a journalist and then had to apologize after a lot of bad publicity, it was the only thing to smile about during his tenure at the top of the heap of BLM’s mismanaged and unethical Wild Horse & Burro Program. Not to mention the whole BP disaster that happened under Salazar’s watch.

Since Sally Jewell worked in banking for many years, maybe she’ll be able to help the American public get an accurate count of the wild horses on their federally protected Herd Management Areas.

While wild horse advocates hope that the new Secretary of the Department of the Interior will do something to stop the BLM’s eradication of wild horses, just because we see photos of Jewell paddling a kayak or read that she likes to hike, we shouldn’t automatically assume that she’ll want to help save the wild horses.

The extractive industries that are leasing public lands for as little as $2 an acre have their hopes up, too (and they have a lot of money and lobbyists). “Tim Wigley, president of the Western Energy Alliance, said he hoped that time in the fields would translate into expanded oil and gas drilling on federal lands. ‘We hope to see a better balance of productive development on non-park, non-wilderness public lands that enhances the wealth of America and creates jobs while protecting the environment.”

Or, why California’s Proposition 37 is important to the rest of the world

A landmark independent study by Canadian doctors published in the peer-reviewed journal Reproductive Toxicology this May found that toxins from soil bacterium that had been engineered into genetically modified (GM or GMO) Bt corn to kill pests was present in the bloodstream of 93 percent of pregnant women as well as in 80 percent of their fetal cord blood.
It was the first human clinical trial of genetically modified food; though humanity has been eating it for almost 16 years.
During the interim, manufacturers of GMOs refused to allow independent labs in the US to test their “patented seeds” to see if they posed a danger for consumption or whether or not they could cause cancer or trigger unknown or long-term health problems for adults; or harm fetuses, newborns, and children. . .unless researchers signed an agreement allowing the manufacturer to review and approve the results of the study.

European countries ran independent lab tests on animals fed GMOs anyway.
The results weren’t pretty

Rubber stamped by the FDA, GMO seed manufacturers and Big Agra began feeding Americans unlabeled GMO food during the 1990s.  Groundwork for this scheme was laid during the 1970s and continues to date.
Politically appointed personnel connected to the biotech industry were quietly placed at the FDA, USDA, and other key positions in Washington by elected shills slathered with campaign donations from the biotech industry and Monsanto—the world’s largest GM seed manufacturer—to facilitate the introduction of GMO food into the world.
GMOs were subsequently declared “. . .essentially equivalent to natural food . . .” or words to that effect . . . and Monsanto was given the green light to release its genetically modified seed into national and world food markets.
GMOs and their derivatives quickly found their way into 80-85% of what America ate.

With no labeling.

Thus America became Monsanto’s fiat lab for genetically modified food; their long-term clinical study. That’s why GMO-seed manufacturers quietly dumped the lion’s share of their toxic seeds into North America, Latin America, and India ; selling it to farmers as an agricultural Valhalla; “a green revolution”; knowing full well possible dangers could develop from the consumption of this food; all the while keeping the public beneath its toadstool.

It’s also why GMOs haven’t been labeled! in the United States. Other nations, once they realized the potential dangers of GM food, put labels on the food and Monsanto’s markets dried up because grocers refused to carry it when consumers refused to buy it.

Here’s an accurate one hour documentary on the implications of this for humanity .

Monsanto lovin’ “Conservation” Cowboys push to kill wild horses

“If Callie is so worried about conservation, why didn’t she bust a gut talking about the “degraded resources for all” caused by Monsanto and the other sponsors of the NACD annual meeting?

___________________________________________________________________________________

When representatives of Conservation Districts with ties to Monsanto attended the last Bureau of Land Management’s National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting, they not only pushed for the roundup of wild horses & burros, they pushed to have the wild horses & burros sold for slaughter.

Wait a minute, these organizations have the word “conservation” in their titles, don’t they?  So what’s going on?

Right before the last Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board meeting in Reno, the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) had their big annual meeting in Las Vegas.  The NACD meeting was sponsored by Monsanto, Bayer Crop Science, DuPont, Sygenta and Pioneer, the biggest producers of the genetically engineered crops on the planet.

At NACD’s meeting, Monsanto sponsored a radio broadcast on Agritalk and NACD President Gene Schmidt and First Vice President Earl Garber were interviewed.  (So was Rick Cole, Director of Weed Resistance for Monsanto.)

For NACD’s live auction, Monsanto donated four 30-gallon containers of Roundup Power Max.

At the NACD meeting, Callie Hendrickson, appointed by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to represent the general public (is Monsanto the general public?) on the National Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board, gave a presentation.  She made unsubstantiated claims regarding wild horses & burros, including the statement that wild horses “degraded resources for all.”

If Callie is so worried about conservation, why didn’t she bust a gut talking about the “degraded resources for all” caused by Monsanto and the other sponsors of the NACD annual meeting?

October 3, 2012

MC: Monsanto, Bill Gates, the Rockefellers, Craig Venter and other investors are working behind-the-scenes to bring genetically engineered (GE) algae to market with products that include fuel, animal feed made with manure, human food and vaccines.

The US government has a stake in this enterprise, too.  Obama put a moratorium on drilling for oil on federal land and voted down the Keystone pipeline, in addition to subsidizing the nuclear industry instead of increasing oil reserves.

Obama has advocated replacing 17% of US oil imports with oil made from algae.

Algae could be the next bottomless pit that the government flushes money down, to the detriment of the taxpayer, similar to the many solar energy scandals.

There are two major areas of algae research that the government and private entities are funding; open pond algae farms use massive amounts of freshwater, but this is the cheapest option.  The second option is mutated, genetically engineered (GE) or synthetic algae that may be able to use saltwater and polluted water, but there are risks of out-of-control consequences.

OPEN POND

Obama referenced a study that suggested 17% of US oil imports could be replaced with algae oil using the open pond method.  However, he failed to mention that these algae farms would require land mass the size of North Dakota and a continuous supply of freshwater.

It requires 350 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of algae oil!  The amount of water required to replace 17% of oil imports is equal to 25% of all water in the US used for crop irrigation.

The study published by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory failed to account for polluted water, evaporation and the energy required to keep ponds from freezing.

New Zealand law mirrors US and Canada, fake food safety bills

___________________________________________________

It comes as no surprise that the fake food safety bill passed here in the US in what was clearly a staged event that required the complicity of the other 99 Senators who voluntarily vacated the US Senate chamber to allow  “Dirty Harry” to cast the only vote as “unanimous” is being mirrored, replicated and implemented in many other countries. Canada passed its C-36 bill shortly after “Dirty Harry” completed his task here in the US, and now it appears New Zealand food rights are on the chopping block too.

What are the chances that New Zealand Retailers Association would come up with what appears to be a line of propaganda nearly identical to the crap foisted on the American public as their rights to produce and consume foods of their choice were attacked relentlessly by Big AG and the bio-pirates along with other corporate interests who stand to profit immensely at the expense of the public? These are the same interested party’s and stakeholders who rammed C-36 through Canada’s parliament.

And here we see the same limp arguments coming out of New Zealand, promoted by yet another retailers association intent on convincing New Zealanders that their food supply and production, needs “modernization”. Modernization with regards to food can be easily defined as centralization of food production and supply to provide market monopolies to multi-national corporations.  The greatest threat to food supply chains around the world is industrialized food which provides neither safe food, nor nutritious food.   Progress on the food bill: More

UN, Monsanto, mining, oil & gas companies directing BLM plans for our public land

Resource management plans (for your land?)

How does the UN, Monsanto, mining, and oil & gas companies get their hands into Bureau of Land Mangement (BLM) Resource Management Plans and Environmental Assessments to dictate the use of our public lands (and our future)?

Well, I found one way.  I noticed that two companies, Tetra Tech and Environmental Management & Planning Solutions, Inc. (EMPSi), are preparing BLM (and Forest Service) Resource Management Plans (RMPs), Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and other reports.  (So what do we pay BLM employees to do, just look pretty in their uniforms?)

Tetra Tech

It’s not some small environmental company.  Tetra Tech has 13,000 employees in 330 offices around the world.  Tetra tech owns about 25 other companies  and makes billions of dollars in annual revenues.  They work with developers, nuclear power, energy, mining and minerals processing, etc.  On the Tetra Tech website, it declares: “Our Mission: To be the premier worldwide consulting, engineering, and construction firm.”

Tetra Tech even bought PRO-Intelligent,  an international security and intelligence consulting firm used by the US State Department.  So they seem to have their hands in everything.

The most troubling aspect about Tetra Tech preparing the plans for the BLM can be seen by looking at Tetra Tech’s Board of the Directors:

Hugh M. Grant is the Chairman, President and CEO of Monsanto.
(on Tetra Tech’s website, this fact was omitted in his bio).  Why would Monsanto’s CEO be on the Board of an engineering and construction company?   More

How can a mutated germ plasm be so vastly different that a patent can be obtained and, at the same time, be so substantially the same as the germ plasm it was derived from that it should be generally considered safe and unregulated?”  Someone?  Anyone?

_____________________________________________

The recent deregulation of genetically mutated bluegrass is the first domino to fall in the scheme to deregulate all gmo’s and to avoid having to label these disgusting creations so that consumers, many of whom are fully aware of the dangers of these products, can choose to avoid them.  The economic power wielded by consumers via their food dollars would quickly put an end to genetic modification, mutation and alteration. Therefore, regulation, control, liability for harm and damage along with labeling, must be avoided at all costs.

The reduction of biodiversity as a result of the infestation of transgenic plants and crops will cause the rise of monocultures where a single crop is grown in a region or, becomes the only crop that will grow wiping out any biodiversity and by necessity causing a rise in the use of pesticides and herbicides as insects and weeds alike develop a tolerance to genetically mutated seeds and chemical applications. This infestation and resulting contamination of food crops in particular, or those crops to be used for feeds and fuel should be treated for what they actually are: the equivalent of AIDS in the plant world.

Transgenic crops are protected by fraudulent patents and will eventually be used to eradicate all rights to regional germ plasms.  The GATT agreement will facilitate the loss of the right of farmers in any given region to reproduce or save seed, and will prohibit the sharing of seed; exactly what is being implemented now. The USDA “Invasive Species” Sham

USDA’s APHIS assessment determined that while the plant meets the definition of a “noxious weed,” Kentucky bluegrass has not been found to cause impacts significant enough to warrant regulation at the Federal level

______________________________________________

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the center of one of government’s biggest shams.

As a member of the National Invasive Species Council, the USDA has a mandate to   not authorize, fund, or carry out actions that it believes are likely to cause or promote the introduction or spread of invasive species in the United States or elsewhere.”

Your tax payer dollars are paying for the eradication of invasive species like stink bugs and salt cedar.

Meanwhile, more of your tax dollars are funding the vast promotion of the ultimate invasive species: genetically engineered plants and cloned animals.  This includes USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) which was formerly CSREES, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Economic Research Service (ERS), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).

Invasive species are any species not native to an ecosystem, and with an intentional or unintentional release, are likely to cause, or does cause, economic or environmental harm, or harm to human health.

Consider this when you see what the USDA has allowed to be field tested in the U.S.:

  • Human genes in barley, corn, tobacco, rice, and sugarcane
  • Mouse genes in corn, along with human genes
  • Simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) and Hepatitis B genes in corn
  • Rat genes in soybeans
  • Fruit fly genes in potatoes
  • Pig genes in corn
  • Cow genes in tobacco
  • Jellyfish genes in corn and rice

Is a mining company giving the shaft to farmers and ranchers?

“The farmers and ranchers know they won’t be able to truly tell, until the passage of time, if there  IS interconnectivity between the valleys.  If there is interconnectivity, it will be too late to stop what could be disastrous effects on their farms and ranches. “

Part 3

Mining companies are buying up ranches left and right, just to get the water rights.  Then all they have to do is get a permit to change the use from irrigation to mining.  Once appropriated, the water rights are not available for any other development, even if the mine never opens, unless the mine is willing to sell the water rights.

At a Nevada Division of Water Resources hearing in December, 2010, an admirable group of Nevada farmers and ranchers, who’ve had water rights in their families for generations, protested the appropriation of water rights of Kobeh Valley Ranch, owned by mining company General Moly.  General Moly wants to change the use of water rights on Kobeh Valley Ranch from irrigation to mining for their Mt.Hope mine.  This is in addition to other water rights General Moly has already purchased from other farms surrounding the valley.

To give you some background, General Moly is 25% owned by Hanlong USA Mining, a  subsidiary of Sichuan Hanlong Group, a Chinese “private enterprise.”  Sichuan Hanlong Group recently received a $1.5 billion loan from the Export-Import Bank ofChina (China Eximbank) to support its investments in overseas mining opportunities, with $745 million towards General Moly.  The Export-Import Bank of China is fully owned by the Chinese government and under the leadership of the State Council.  It’s a “government policy bank.”

BlackRock Trust Company, which is associated with billionaire George Soros, seems to be the 2nd top owner of shares in General Moly.  BlackRock Trust is also the 5th top owner of shares in agricultural company Monsanto. More

Minnesota Republicans join Iowa and other states colluding to protect Big AG donors

Republicans in every state should just hang a big “FOR SALE” sign on the door to their offices.  Maybe they already did. “

Minnesota Republicans join Iowa, Florida and a few other states colluding to protect big Ag producers from having the abuses and instances of animal cruelty, neglect, mistreatment and fetid conditions documented, especially in the media.

The Minnesota bills, S 1118 and H 1369 are almost a verbatim reproduction of the bills Republican’s introduced in Iowa just last week specifically criminalizing the photographing or video-taping of animal cruelty and abuse by industrialized corporate producers or anyone else for that matter.  But the intent of all these bills is to protect the top donors to election campaigns from negative exposure of the rampant abuse, unsanitary conditions and abject misery animals and poultry are subjected to under the corporate model.

These new laws would be codified in Minnesota statutes Chapter 17.

As these laws are a clear violation of the First Amendment and free speech, and would serve no other purpose than to protect corporations whose focus is on profits above anything else, I have to wonder where all that righteous, moral, “our values” crap went?  More

“The USDA and Monsanto co-own the dangerous Terminator Seed patent together.  Therefore, we can expect a continuation of ‘business as usual’ with the USDA pushing GE food down our throats on behalf of their business partners in the biotech industry. “

____________________________________________

The federal government claims the debt is $14.3 trillion dollars, but other economists say the US debt is closer to $200 trillion (based on projected revenue and projected spending).  Either way, a $38 billion budget reduction makes no difference.  Especially when the federal government’s actual spending will decrease by a mere $352 million compared to last year- as reported by the National Journal:

“The astonishing result, according to CBO, is due to several factors: increases in spending included in the deal, especially at the Defense Department; decisions to draw over half of the savings from rescissions, which are funds previously authorized but not spent; cuts to reserve funds; and to mandatory-spending programs, such as certain farm subsidies.”

Here is a sample of some of the so-called budget cuts:

1.  Department of Defense budget-

The DoD’s budget for 2010 was $685 billion, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to WikipediaObama called for a reduction in the DoD budget by $400 billion….over 12 years, which averages out to $33 billion a year. This cut is still pending a Pentagon review which leaves Obama with some wiggle room. Compare the money that the US spends on military industrial corporate welfare and illegal wars to China, with the second largest military expenditure, in the amount of $150 billion.

Who is the DoD’s real enemy?  It appears to be the American taxpayer and the US economy. More

Hay Now — It’s Boycott Time: Land O’Lakes, This Means You!

By Citizens for Safe Food and Feed

Farm Wars

By now you’ve heard how President Obama and his Monsanto Administration have plowed through approvals of three more genetically engineered products, including GE alfalfa.  Well, here’s something else you should know:

To produce its Round-Up Ready Alfalfa seeds, Monsanto partnered with a company called Forage Genetics International, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Land O’Lakes dairy co-op. That’s right, Land O’Lakes stands to make a fortune from polluting our food supply with untested and unlabeled GMOs.

To protest, you could sign one of the many petitions going around that will likely just be ignored.  But there’s another way to show your disapproval of genetically engineered Round-Up Ready Alfalfa:  Boycott all Land O’Lakes products — its butter, cheese, eggs, speads, margarine, seasonings, creams, cocoa and cappuccino mixes, sour cream and milk.  All of them.

You have the power to economically punish Land O’Lakes — the owner of Forage Genetics, Monsanto’s partner in crime — for its role in polluting the food chain with untested and unlabeled GMOs, increasing the use of toxic glyphosate herbicide, and potentially destroying the organic beef and dairy feed market by loudly refusing to support Land O’Lakes with your dollars.

Tell all your friends to go to all the supermarkets in their area and let the check-out clerks know that they’re boycotting Land O’Lakes products until they are out of the GMO business, loud enough for other shoppers to hear.  And next, stop by the store manager’s desk and tell him about the boycott.

Send Land O’Lakes and other companies a clear message:  HAY you — We’re FED UP with GMOs in our food supply!

And to make sure Land O’Lakes knows why its sales are down, contact its president and CEO Chris Policinski and let him know you won’t be buying Land O’Lakes products anymore because you don’t want genetically engineered food or animal feed:

Monsanto Shifts ALL Liability to Farmers

Farmers like genetically modified (GM) crops because they can plant them, spray them with herbicide and then there is very little maintenance until harvest. Farmers who plant Monsanto’s GM crops probably don’t realize what they bargain for when they sign the Monsanto Technology Stewardship Agreement contract. One farmer reportedly ‘went crazy’ when he discovered the scope of the contract because it transfers ALL liability to the farmer or grower.

Here is the paragraph that defines Monsanto’s limit of liability that shifts it to the farmer:

“GROWER’S EXCLUSIVE LIMITED REMEDY: THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY OF THE GROWER AND THE LIMIT OF THE LIABILITY OF MONSANTO OR ANY SELLER FOR ANY AND ALL LOSSES, INJURY OR DAMAGES RESULTING FROM THE USE OR HANDLING OF SEED (INCLUDING CLAIMS BASED IN CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE, PRODUCT LIABILITY, STRICT LIABILITY, TORT, OR OTHERWISE) SHALL BE THE PRICE PAID BY THE GROWER FOR THE QUANTITY OF THE SEED INVOLVED OR, AT THE ELECTION OF MONSANTO OR THE SEED SELLER, THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SEED. IN NO EVENT SHALL MONSANTO OR ANY SELLER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.”  More

USDA Certified Organic’s Dirty Little Secret: Neotame

Just when we thought that buying “Organic” was safe, we run headlong into the deliberate poisoning of our organic food supply by the FDA in collusion with none other than the folks who brought us Aspartame. NutraSweet, a former Monsanto asset, has developed a new and improved version of this neurotoxin called Neotame. More
