CHRIS SCHWAB AND DEBORAH HAYS.
They have been successful in making laws in Colorado. They have paved the way for other states to do the same.

We will also be having a recent Fresenius termination, and we need to get back to the issues on what is being allowed to happen in this industry, as CMS continues to allow patients to be terminated.

this is a well documented case, and we are filled with new terminations. It appears that we are seeing a connection with terminating, false documentation (character assassinations) if you listen to past shows, even on our website.

You can make up your own mind.

Bio: Chris Schwab
Father of a daughter dealing with kidney disease (transplant now) – and an almost 20 year living kidney donor. A living donor who’s only side effect was being freed up to help head-up a group that got through a Colorado state bill for the certification of hemodialysis techs in 2007-renewed in 2012-and now renewed in 2019 (SB19-145). Also a vet who served in the Army Security Agency (’73-’78).

Arlene Mullin — advocate, 20 years experience guiding patients and their families through all aspects of End Stage Renal Disease and treatments.  Mullin has served patients in a majority of states, engaging both Medicare and state health authorities towards resolution of quality care issues at clinics.  Comprehensive knowledge of care issues on clinic level.  She was instrumental in getting the hearings on aging before the U.S. Senate in 2000 where she testified on patient care issue within the dialysis industry.

Our guest tonight is Sean Higgins.  Sean is well known for his whistleblowing on the Memphis VA hospital for numerous and well established abuses of patients at that facility.  Among the issues Sean exposed, was the lack of proper cleaning of dialysis equipment that endangered the lives of veterans needing dialysis.  In fact, of 13 dialysis units, 8 had to be replaced due to lack of proper maintenance.   Sean will be discussing how he discovered the filthy dialysis units and what transpired when he reported this.

Sean’s relentless exposure of the lack of care, failure to follow proper procedures, leaving patients unattended and numerous other infractions at the facility caused his termination.  Sean fought back and the Memphis VA was forced to rehire him.  As a result, Sean was put into a room with a few other people, no job to do, no computer or other equipment and forced to stay there all day in retaliation for exposing the sad state of affairs at the Memphis VA.  And taxpayers had to foot the bill for this retaliation.

What is the consequence of the kidney shortage?

It is a catastrophe.  We conservatively estimate that each year 43,000 patients suffer on dialysis and die prematurely because of the shortage.  That’s equivalent to 85 fully loaded 747s crashing each year.  That’s 118 patients dying each day.  Since 1988 (when data collection began) almost 1 million patients have suffered and died prematurely because of the shortage.

All patient cases have been documented and verified for accuracy.

Lisa Baxter is a Dialysis Patient and author of “Through the Eyes of a Dialysis Patient” a book on her experiences as a patient. She is President and founder of Blessed Kidneys Connection which she founded in 2010. Lisa has her own Youtube channel dealing with Dialysis issues. She graduated with a Associates Degree from Empire State College. She works in the Social Service Field and loves to work with people. She is an advocate for anyone needing help. In 1995 she was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and went on dialysis in 2004. Lisa decided to become an advocate for patients and family members. She produced a DVD “Life on Dialysis” in 2009 her story on dialysis.
