Whistleblower’s! Is brought to you in coordination with Marcel Reid and the Whistleblower’s Summit, taking place July 29-30-31, 2019 in Washington,D.C

Our guest tonight is Sean Higgins. Sean is well known for his whistleblowing on the Memphis VA hospital for numerous and well established abuses of patients at that facility. Among the issues Sean exposed, was the lack of proper cleaning of dialysis equipment that endangered the lives of veterans needing dialysis. In fact, of 13 dialysis units, 8 had to be replaced due to lack of proper maintenance. Sean will be discussing how he discovered the filthy dialysis units and what transpired when he reported this.
Sean’s relentless exposure of the lack of care, failure to follow proper procedures, leaving patients unattended and numerous other infractions at the facility caused his termination. Sean fought back and the Memphis VA was forced to rehire him. As a result, Sean was put into a room with a few other people, no job to do, no computer or other equipment and forced to stay there all day in retaliation for exposing the sad state of affairs at the Memphis VA. And taxpayers had to foot the bill for this retaliation.

Join us this evening as we host Mr. Ron Hasson of the NAACP
During his years of employment he held a General Management Executive position with extensive experience in strategic planning, operations and human resource management. Ron is resourceful in solving problems and maximizing resources.
Mr. Hasson currently chairs the California-Hawaii State Conference Southwest Area. Director and in 2012 he became a member of the NAACP National board of Directors. He is serving his fifth term as President of the Branch, The focus of Mr. Hasson commitment continues to address issues concerning people of color in Region 1 and the Hollywood Industry.
Ron is a native of Tallahassee, Florida and a long-tune resident of California and has been instrumental in getting our NAACP Resolutions moving to make changes in the Dialysis Industry. Thank you for all dialysis patients.
Following Mr. Hasson we will hear from patients from a Davita clinic that have been told they are moving to another location.
This location is in a different county, which means that patients who cannot drive, will not be able to cross county lines for transportation.
We will extend an invitation to Davita and see why this is becoming another form of perhaps excluding patients.
This is legal, as some of these companies are closing and opening new centers in other areas.

What is the consequence of the kidney shortage?
It is a catastrophe. We conservatively estimate that each year 43,000 patients suffer on dialysis and die prematurely because of the shortage. That’s equivalent to 85 fully loaded 747s crashing each year. That’s 118 patients dying each day. Since 1988 (when data collection began) almost 1 million patients have suffered and died prematurely because of the shortage.
All patient cases have been documented and verified for accuracy.
