TOPIC: Update on Lucy the Elephant in Edmonton Zoo in Canada
Lucy the Elephant has been at the Edmonton Valley Zoo for 46 years and turns 48 this year. This is an ominous milestone as zoo elephants rarely survive to their mid forties. Lucy suffers from a number of zoo induced ailments which will shorten her life expectancy. She has no other elephant companions, which is considered cruel by elephant experts due to their highly complex social needs. The harsh Edmonton climate is detrimental to her health and painful for her ongoing arthritis and foot disease. Lucy lives in a tiny concrete cell and is only allowed outdoors for short controlled walks.
Drawing on the central historical and cultural role horses have played in the United States, AWA are working to ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption. Americans strongly oppose horse slaughter. AWA also working to ban the transport of all equines for the purposes of slaughter

John Oberg is an animal advocate, influencer, and social media professional, dedicated to making the world a kinder place for animals by utilizing the power of social media. Through his strategic use of these platforms, content posted to pages he has managed has been seen over 1 billion times.
Together we can change the world for animals. But first, we need to create opportunities for everyone to get involved.
A lawyer for 25 years, Jeremy Moss Cohen has been handling cases for dog, cat and horse owners since 2008. He founded Boston Dog Lawyers in 2016 with a mission to grow a law practice specializing in representing dog and other companion animal owners. His first case in 2008 was to save Jesse the German Shepherd for his step-kids, and he did. Jeremy treats your pet like he or she is his own and that passion and energy fuels the courtroom battles. Surrendering is not an option.
After more than a month away, we are ready to resume our postings. The PPJ is also looking for citizen journalists, or maybe just some op-ed pieces from concerned people. TOPIC Will be: Youth for Animals main campaign is about freeing Shankar (an African elephant in the Delhi Zoo)
Who is Shankar?
In 1998, a 26 month-old male African elephant was presented as a diplomatic gift by Zimbabwe to India. He was named ‘Shankar’ after India’s 9th President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma. Shankar, now over 26 years old, has lived his entire life in the Delhi zoo (National Zoological Park, NZP). Since 2001 when his sole companion Vambai passed away, Shankar has lived in solitary confinement.
Shankar is chained for 17 hours of the day and does not have adequate space to move around when he is let out. Much like humans, elephants are social beings and suffer neurological distress when put in solitary confinement. Shankar constantly demonstrates stereotypical behaviour like swaying and head-bobbing, a key sign of distress (see video) In fact, Shankar’s aggressive behaviour has necessitated the zoo authorities to permanently close the viewing pathway since he could be a danger to visitors.

This Act creates a Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (“Authority”) as a private self-regulatory organization. The Authority must develop rules related to horseracing, including anti-doping, medication control and racetrack safety rules. The FTC is given broad oversight over the Authority.
Animal Wellness Action is a 501(c) organization with a mission of helping animals by promoting legal standards forbidding cruelty. AWA champion causes that alleviate the suffering of companion animals, farm animals, and wildlife. AWA advocate for policies to stop dogfighting and cockfighting and other forms of malicious cruelty and to confront factory farming and other systemic forms of animal exploitation.
Photographer and wild horse advocate Carol Walker, who has been a guest on many radios shows, has just published a new book that documents the wild horses of the Red Desert in Wyoming.
Since 2004, Carol Walker has been visiting wild horses in Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana and grown increasingly enamored with the colorful herds that inhabit the region, grazing and reproducing in close-knit family groups. This story begins on a crisp fall day in 2018 as she roamed rural roads in the Red Desert Complex of Wyoming. In the hours before dawn she’d glimpsed a few family bands at a distance through her binoculars. Ahead she spotted a stallion standing tall and proud, a blue roan with four white matching stockings that went up all four legs. His mane was twisted with wind knots and a long forelock covered his eyes. He was the most beautiful stallion she had ever seen! She pulled to the side of the road and got out with her camera. He would become known as Blue Zeus and it was the beginning of a love affair that lasts to this day.
Join Carol as she relates Blue Zeus’s capture and separation from his family in a BLM roundup and the coordinated efforts, led by her, to find them a safe haven. Carol shares with readers the heartbreaking details of that roundup. At present over 60,000 wild horses are captive in holding corrals that range from feedlots to pastures; too many end up being sent to slaughter or die from inadequate care.
As one of the leading advocates for America’s wild horses, Carol Walker is dedicated to educating people with her stunning photographs and stories and to stopping wild horse roundups and removals from America’s public lands, keeping them wild and free. This is a story that will win the hearts of whole families and grace bookshelves across the land. It’s a gift to be appreciated by horse and wildlife lovers everywhere!

Proponents of breed-specific laws seek to limit public exposure to well-documented dangerous dog breeds by regulating the ownership of them.
BSL needs to disappear. BSL is discrimination, stero-typing, prejudice, and injustice. When a dog attacks, all animals should not be held accountable
