Bio for Cynthia Sullivan

Born in Greenville SC. Was married for 26 yrs. Mother of 3. 2 Sons and 1 daughter, I have 3 beautiful grandchildren. I am an Operations Manager at a Pharmaceutical consulting firm. i have been at my company for 14 yrs. I have a Master’s Degree in Busines management. I’m a member of Blue Star Mother’s organization in Charlotte NC. January 8, 2018 we lost our wonderful 24 year old son Specialist Javion Sullivan in Iraq. He is married to Rayven Sullivan and has a 4 yr old daughter Allie. He was our quiet storm. Wonderful young man that was adamant about serving his country. It was his calling and he stepped up with much pride. His father Willis Sullivan and myself have vowed to continue to serve in his honor and to keep his legacy alive. .We are now a Gold Star Family and moving forward encouraging others to work through their grief as we walk this journey. We are now members of a club that you don’t pay money or is voted into. You become a member by circumstance and that is the loss of a child. But through it all God is still in control. I take one day at a time. I celebrate our Son’s Life and not mourn his death. God has given me peace and it is well with my Soul.

Son of a USMC Korean War veteran. Stepson of a Korean War navy corpsman. Both of my uncles were USMC Korea veterans. Grandfather was a merchant marine officer dodging u-boats in WWII and a US Navy seaman on a destroyer in WWI. My son is a currently active duty LCPL in the USMC, preparing for his second overseas assignment later this year. My daughter’s enlistment in the USCG was denied due to a bone deformity. I enlisted in the USMC in 1978 but failed the physical due to eyesight, and my selective service classification was changed to 3P. The Navy supply corps turned me down in 1986 for the same reason despite having 3 college bachelor degrees. Boy scout and girl scout leader for 10 years each. One-time SC state senate candidate. Firm believer in the quote “decisions are made by those who show up”. Married to an immigrant for 29 years and counting. Enrolled agent’s license and a master’s degree in taxation. Author of several opinion editorials that are thought provoking.
