Puppy Mills are commercial dog breeding facilities that are operated with an emphasis upon profit above welfare. As a result, the dogs in these facilities are often kept in substandard conditions that threaten the health and well-being of dogs in their care. For years, these dogs are continually bred—without human companionship or hope of ever becoming part of a family.
The puppies are sold in pet stores or over the Internet. Because the dogs are bred irresponsibly, the puppies are prone to a variety of illnesses. Some families are forced to watch their new family member die within days or weeks of purchase.

We have another update on the outrageous “lab-gag” bill making its way through the California State Assembly. As we’ve told you, this legislation—Assembly Bill 700, sponsored by Assembly Member Laura Friedman—would allow experimenters at California universities to hide the cruelty that they inflict on animals imprisoned in their laboratories by exempting them from the state’s transparency laws.
Britches’ eyes were sewn shut in a University of California laboratory.
This anti-democratic bill, which would make the rescue of laboratory survivors nearly impossible, is up for a vote on Wednesday in the Appropriations Committee. If the members of this committee vote against the bill, it will be dead.
You can help make sure that happens by calling and tweeting the members of the Appropriations Committee now to urge them to vote NO on Friedman’s “lab-gag” bill, AB 700. Here are their phone numbers and Twitter handles:

Below is some suggested language, but using your own words would be even more effective. (Please remember to put a period [.] before the handle so that it appears in your timeline.)
[Assembly member’s Twitter handle], please kill #AB 700 by @LauraFriedman43. Animal experimenters at state institutions shouldn’t be exempt from open-records laws.
And if you haven’t already done so, please urge your state assembly member to reject this pro-cruelty bill.
Thank you for taking action to defeat AB 700 today.
Sincerely,
Kathy Guillermo
Senior Vice President
