Update

It appears that Senator Winters has decided to assist in arbitration between Kentucky and this Amish Group.

Sen. Winters trying to help find safety compromise

First District Sen. Ken Winters is hoping to help in a Graves County dispute over requiring Amish residents to display a florescent triangle on buggies contrary to their religious beliefs.

He said Amish residents have provided a photo sample to him of reflective tape that could be placed on buggies that would alert drivers to a slow-moving vehicle ahead that would not be objectionable.

“They show the kind of reflective tape they are using all around the exterior of the vehicle,” Winters said. “After dark, and I would be reluctant to be out after dark but, the reflective tape probably would be a better alternative. It is going to reflect headlights. We’re going to be taking a look at it to see if there is anything we could do.”

If Senator Winters is willing to help, the least Readers can do is thank him. Sometimes they do try and get it right. So if you have the opportunity, an email or call to his office expressing a simple “Thank You” might be in order:

Amish Sent to Jail For Safety Violations

The men, who belong to a particularly strict Amish sect in Graves County, said paying the fines violated their religious beliefs against wearing bright colors or trusting in man-made symbols for their safety.

You know – they wouldn’t put Government Mandated triangles on the back of their buggies. The “English” cannot have that – for the sake of the children.

Someone else thought a “little law” wouldn’t get out of hand also. Look at that funny man. He’s different and might be dangerous – thus The Nuremberg Laws.

True – the end result was exactly as .gov wanted:

But we’re just too civilized as a Nation to do those types of things:

Have we learned nothing from the past?

Once allowed to erode, Freedom is almost impossible to regain. I truly was not aware of how petty and mean-spirited we have become as a Nation. Then today a friend forwarded this FR Thread with the following type comments:

Are the Amish like hobbits or something? They’re all short!

wow

I bet the Omish girls are pretty desperate.

That is just a great classic look that never goes out of style. But why does #2 not have the flippy side thing going? His mother is the local Tupperware sales rep and he is used for the demo to show how helpful the bowls are for haircuts.

A few of them look like what you would get if you crossed a Hasidic guy and the Little Dutch Boy…lol

To be true, there were some different viewpoints:

good for them, i say. maybe their women love them because they stand up for their principles

We should leave these good folks alone. That’s all they want.

It’s pretty funny that some are ready to stand up for principles – until they have to go to jail.

I have more respect for these Men than the boys who turn and run at the first scary vote on the Hill.

The vast majority of comments were like little boys poking a stick at an injured animal.  There is an analytical reason why those who are scared of something (loss of Freedom) tend to kick those who are down. Fear. Deep down they know that by standing by they are in effect condoning the action of .gov.

Again I ask – could this happen again?

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
