“These abominable acts set the stage for more criminal activity and tyranny: UN authorized wars for oil and resources, expansion of presidential power caused by the impotency of Congress, the death of the Constitution, runaway “defense” spending that bankrupts taxpayers, and the outright theft of nations’ assets for use against them.”

Obama’s military action (war) against Libya sets dangerous precedent with each passing day that increases tyranny in America and abroad.

•  A United Nations resolution was the justification for US military action in Libya.

•  The War Powers Act of 1973 allows the president to commit armed forces overseas after a declaration of war, after specific statutory authorization or after a national emergency created by an attack on the US, its territories or armed forces.  None of these conditions apply to Libya.

•  The War Powers Act requires a halt in military action after 60 days if Congress fails to approve of the operation.  The deadline was May 20th, but Harry Reid said that Congress won’t address the unlawful military adventure until some undetermined date following the Memorial Day holiday.

•  While Obama has failed to seek approval from Congress, he is passing US involvement off as a limited action that has has cost the US taxpayers at least $750 million.

•  Obama arrogantly said that he wanted congressional backing, but he did not ask for authorization.

•  Outrageously, our spineless Congress has responded by doing virtually nothing.  It is within the power of Congress to stop funding the Libyan intervention, but there is almost no support for this.

•  While Obama said that the US has only limited participation, a few days later Obama said that there will be no “let up” in pressure from the US-backed NATO coalition.

•  Kerry and McCain drafted a resolution supporting the action that fails to invoke the War Powers Act.  So, the bill would bypass the requirement of Congress to vote on the extension of the Act or vote on a declaration of war.

•  Kenneth Schortgen reported that the Kerry-McCain resolution allows for Libya’s frozen assets (intended as persuasive sanction) to be confiscated and directed for military use against Libya.  There is no legal standing for the theft of these funds without justification or a legal ruling, especially when the money will be used against the country from which it is stolen.

These abominable acts set the stage for more criminal activity and tyranny: UN authorized wars for oil and resources, expansion of presidential power caused by the impotency of Congress, the death of the Constitution, runaway “defense” spending that bankrupts taxpayers, and the outright theft of nations’ assets for use against them.

Here are a few options for what the People can do:

hold those Congress who supported the Libyan intervention or did nothing accountable and vote them out.  AND then replace them with strict Constitutionalists.  We can prevent young people from joining the military by educating them about the true nature and motives of war and the corrupt federal government.  The States, under the Tenth Amendment, can abolish the unconstitutional 16th Amendment (income tax) that funds the federal government and its illegal wars.

Memorial Day is this weekend, a time to reflect on the Americans that have given their lives for our country and to share ideas of liberty.
