Imagine standing by watching your hopes, dreams, and future burn to the ground.
An area fire department felt the heat Thursday after a department policy allowed a home to burn to the ground.
The focus remains on what’s called subscription fire service. Some people living in Obion County, Tennessee must pay a $75 fee to a city fire department if they want firefighters to respond in an emergency.
On Wednesday afternoon, a home in Obion County burned to the ground because the home’s owners, Gene and Paulette Cranick, didn’t pay the fee.
Oh the men with the spotted dog do get involved, only after a nearby structure is threatened. What pray tell is the difference between your house and the one next door? They paid the forced “Fee” of $75 per year.
Gene and Paulette Cranick, of South Fulton, Tennessee, US, lost their home after officers were ordered by bosses not to extinguish it.
Fire fighters only arrived when the flames spread to the property of a neighbour, who had paid the fee. However, they continued to refuse to help the Cranicks.
South Fulton, Tennessee may be a nice place to live although it seems that Taxes fees are already collected for a variety of categories. A search for the budget does not explain where ones tax dollars are distributed, but here is how they are collected:
- 7% State Sales Tax$2.2/$100@25% County Real & Personal Property Tax
- 2.75% County Sales Tax
- No State Income Tax
- $30 City Wheel Tax
- $40 County Wheel Tax
- $24 State Car License
- $1.7/$100@25% City Real & Personal Property Tax
According to their Mission Statement, they appear in many regards like little Fire Departments everywhere:
“The mission of the South Fulton Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of its citizens, and provide good public relations through fire safety education to all businesses and schools.”
And guess what? There is no line that continues “…as long as the appropriate fees are met.”
After this little example, one can be sure that all residents will fall into line with the regional mobsters. Because:
Edmison said Obion County has entered into a letter of intent with all eight fire district municipalities, so all eight departments will soon respond to county residents through subscription service only.
Captive Audience – Mindless Obedience.
I question the entire system set up in these counties. After all, when the call came into the Fire Department did they check the magic database and then – sit there (presumably without s’more makings for something to do) – just how did the Fire Chief who ordered the fire fighters not to go out know that there was not an individual in the home burning? Was this more of an object lesson for those Community Members who have not yet ponied up their protection money?
What about the Fire Fighters present later on scene? They refused to assist the Cranick family. Did they not remember the Oath that they swore upon receiving their Badge? I cannot imagine it differs far from this anonymous Fire Fighter Oath:I promise concern for others. A willingness to help all those in need.
I promise courage – courage to face and conquer my fears. Courage to share and endure the ordeal of those who need me.
I promise strength – strength of heart to bear whatever burdens might be placed upon me. Strength of body to deliver to safety all those placed within my care.
I promise the wisdom to lead, the compassion to comfort, and the love to serve unselfishly whenever I am called.
Obviously there were no Oath Keepers amongst the Brigade. That my friends is a shame.
Our motto is “Not on our watch!”
When we reach the point when Government of any size will stand aside and allow a fellow American’s property to be destroyed over a few dollars – we lose the principle behind the concept of our Nation.
When we fear losing our employment so greatly that we “just follow orders of our Superiors” we debase the notion that we are different from the Enemies of Foreign birth and we become the Enemies of Domestic Oppression.
Which department is next? Law Enforcement? Judicial? Tax Collectors?
And if you are a member of such an Organization – will you “just follow orders”?
