Picture this.

A blustery day in  February 2009.

A President poised gracefully behind a podium, teleprompter at the ready, speaking to Americans about how one of the Nations top manufacturers had explained that because of the proposed Stimulus Package, Caterpillar would be re-hiring some of those 22,000 employees recently laid off.

Label GMO Salmon? Consumers Get “Too Confused” Says BioFreakenomic Guru!

If one is going to make the statement that Genetically Modified Food is safe to consume in an AP article, then one should utilize studies that actually discuss that issue – right? Well according to the above article – which strings together various individuals statements both supporting and opposing consumption of GMO’s – that is not necessarily the case:

David Ervin of Portland State University in Oregon, who chaired the committee that wrote the report, said it found no large-scale environmental risks associated with the current genetically engineered corn, cotton and soybeans in the United States. As for future crops, “you just have to be very cautious,” depending on the nature of the plants, he says.

The report, which did not consider health impacts of eating genetically engineered crops, did recommend large-scale studies of ecological effects of such crops, Ervin said.

Including in the opening paragraphs is this statement:

Scientists have already determined that it is safe to eat. They are weighing other factors, including environmental risks, after two days of intense hearings.

I’d like to point out an Opinion Poll with some really valid comments/questions put forward. Over 70% of the individuals who chose to participate in this poll did not give a blanket “Yes – I’d chow down on GMO Salmon”. Questions raised included everything from concerns over hormones, eel DNA inserts, FDA truthfulness, environmental changes, population control, and some “interesting” facts thrown in to keep everyone guessing.

Of course depending on the Alphabet agencies to actually read the studies in reference to this issue is like expecting Congress to actually read the bills before they are voted on. Why should these “blue panelled committees” read about the issues when the ambiguous “Scientific Staff” has already chewed up and spit out the “facts” in digested form? In my world digestion produces fecal matter, not unlike the “facts” which are being sprayed about up on the Hill. More

This past week was a busy one in New York City’s United Nations building. Besides the speeches by Iran’s president and the U.S. president, there were meetings and conferences regarding the future of planet earth. While all eyes were on the speeches and pomp and circumstance of world leaders, the denizens of U.S. newsrooms ignored what one observer termed “The Mother of All Power Grabs.”

The United Nations General Assembly is considering a historic resolution recognizing the human right to “safe and clean drinking water and sanitation” initiated by the Bolivian government. Other UN members have been consulted on the resolution and the final text is expected to be presented to the President of the General Assembly.

In a letter sent today to all UN Ambassadors and permanent missions, global water advocate and Blue Planet Project founder Maude Barlow urges a decisive and swift passage of the resolution.

“This would be one of the most important things the UN has done since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” says Barlow, who chairs the boards of the Council of Canadians and Washington-based Food and Water Watch. In 2008/2009, Barlow served as Senior Advisor on Water to the 63rd President of the UN General Assembly.  More

An Ode to Entrepreneurs:Middle-class? Long Gone!

Like swans of legend, American entrepreneurs sing their final, beautiful song before they just fade away.

When everyone who is employed works for the state or federal government, we’ll all likely be as impoverished as the citizens of the old Soviet Union. Remember the Soviets standing in long lines, with falling snow, to buy what they could from a dwindling short supply of consumer goods, goods they could barely afford, like two left boots, both of the wrong sizes?

Having too many people working for the government is the antithesis of prosperity. And it’s estimated that for every “green” job the government creates, they’ll eliminate 2.2 jobs from the real world of private enterprise, at a cost of about $700,000.00 a piece.

Government employees seem to concentrate on negatives: They stop people, impoverish people, tax people, poison people, imprison people, kill people, torture people, or bomb civilizations into rubble. Governments create little of a positive nature, least of all their governmental programs.

Sophists-historians-academics say, without government programs there would never have been an American middle-class. How wrong can people be? Well, these fellows push the limits, when they repeat the doctrines so widely promulgated by America’s academic class. They are  the living embodiments of how a people can be very insightful and yet so blind at the same time.

It was not government or large corporations, but the American entrepreneur who built our middle-class, in spite of governmental programs. At last, however, the federal government eliminated America’s small businessmen, while rewarding the oligarchs of the Banking Cartel. And there went our middle-class, too burdened were they with  governmental programs, taxes, laws, and regulations. More

In 1992 Maurice Strong was the Secretary General of the historic United Nations Earth Summit in Rio. In order to ensure the success of the Summit, Strong’s wife, Hanne, held a vigil with the Wisdom-keepers, a group of “global transformationalists.” Through round-the-clock sacred fire, drumbeat, and meditation, the group “held the energy pattern” for the duration of the gathering. As described in an  article called Agenda 21 was the primary output of the Summit. It was stated at the time that this ‘blueprint for the 21st century’ would lay the necessary foundation for a subsequent “new global covenant between humanity and the Earth.” [1]

While law makers and the American public had their eyes concentrated on the much contested Silver King round up in Nevada the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) along with helicopter contractor David Cattoor where conducting an unpublished and unannounced secret wild horse gather at the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (Sheldon).

Plaintiff in several suits against the BLM for lack of transparency and violation of First Amendment Rights, Laura Leigh of GrassRootsHorse, was tipped off that there was illicit activity taking place at Sheldon as many roads were closed due to a “wild horse gather”.

On September 22, 2010 Ms. Leigh discussed this situation with wild horse advocate Leslie Peeples, who was already on the road to visit another wild horse herd, and Ms. Peeples immediately changed plans and headed to Sheldon to investigate as no such “gather” was indicated in any public records.

On the morning of Sept. 23, 2010 Ms. Peeples phoned the Lakeview office of the USFWS and when asked if a wild horse gather was being conducted she was told, “yes”.

Cattoor Truck at Sheldon ~ Photo by Leslie PeeplesMs. Peeples headed out to Sheldon on back roads when she encountered an oncoming semi-truck with a livestock trailer being towed behind it at a reasonable speed.  Ms. Peeples intended to ask the driver where the stampede was taking place so she pulled her car over to the side of the road and stepped out into her lane of traffic to flag the driver down for information.  Upon seeing this, according to filed court documents, the truck driver aimed for the center of the road, speeded up and missed running over Ms. Peoples by only inches.  More

A citizens Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Government – MOU #5 : Food Safety

” That S.510 and its companion bill S.3767 (meant to criminalize the ownership of land and livestock) constitutes an act of terrorism, emanating from our own government against a selected and targeted segment of the nation on behalf of foreign interests, regulations, agreements, corporate interests and most especially Codex Alimentarius.”

______________________________________________

Greetings:

Consider this a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to all members of the Senate, all members of the House, and to President Obama.  I am sure you are fully aware of the intent and implications of MOUs, as each of you, in one way or another, uses them to establish the outlining of agreements between yourselves, collectively or individually, concerning the agreements you have made with individuals acting as state’s representatives or agencies, or with corporate stakeholders; generally to avoid Constitutional prohibitions on your intended actions and in avoidance of the Constitution.  I am using it in quite another fashion as you will see in the following text.

For you, MOUs are the terms and agreements of what, are in fact the first step in contractual agreements. MOUs are most often accompanied by cooperative agreements and funding (bribes) to implement what generally turns out to be egregious assaults to civil rights and liberties to the benefit of the federal government, linked so inextricably to corporate interests and global agreements.

Consider what follows a Memorandum of Understanding between me, Marti J. Oakley, and all of you, collectively cited in the above paragraph.

To Wit:

We (you and I) agree that each and every one of you holds your office as a result of election. And, that as a result of your victory and subsequent oath of office, you were expected to actually represent the people who put their faith and trust in you.  The fact is you have violated this oath at every opportunity regardless of which party you claim allegiance to or which political philosophy you espouse at any given time.

In light of a profound understanding of how you have used and abused this trust and faith, I need you to understand how I (we) perceive you, i.e., your activities, your betrayals of these United States of America, your pandering to corporate interests, your illegal agreements with foreign governments and interests and ultimately what appears to be a very concerted effort to destroy our country and to convert the same into a region in some coveted global plantation.

Because the instances of your acts against the people are so numerous, in this MOU, I will address only these issues:  S.510 and S. 3767, (collectively) the so-called food safety bills which have appeared under multiple numbers and names, proposed and submitted by various members of the Senate and House.

Please consider this Memorandum of Understanding No. 5.

Please be advised that no cooperative agreement with the anticipated funding (bribe money) will be forthcoming.  You may consider this an “Unfunded Mandate” in the sense that I will never contribute one dime to the re-election efforts of any one of you.  “We” in the following text means “WE THE PEOPLE.”

I (We) understand:

A)  The consideration of S.510 The Food Safety Modernization Act, or whatever name this assault on the public is currently being submitted as; and its companion bill S.3767Food Safety Accountability Act of 2010, (a bill which clearly criminalizes independent and family farming and ranching and one which constitutes a direct act of aggression against the people emanating from government), was preceded by the passage in the House of HR 2749 in 2009;  a bill euphemistically titled “Food Safety Act,”; an act that was nothing short of an assault on the food production and supply on behalf of: More

It appears to get worse by the day; corrupt politics, corrupt politicians and an ever expanding and more threatening federal government.

I cannot think of even one person I have talked to or corresponded with, who has expressed even a modicum of fear over terrorism threats from some unknown mad man bent on killing us all off because they “hate us for our freedoms”.  The fear is prevalent in their conversations, generated by the continual onslaught of legislation and Executive Orders issued from a growing and malevolent government; it is this government who hates us for our freedoms. In fact, it isn’t even that they hate us for our freedoms; they just hate us!  While the Obama Administration was surely not the instigator of these assaults on the nation, he is happily following in the footsteps of his predecessor, George Bush the Lesser and his merry band of neo-cons, and has continued the destruction of the sovereign United States.

The neo-cons are alive and well and prospering greatly, we just call them “socialists and communists”, now.  You are supposed to believe that some big ideological change took place when Obama was elected.

The motion names as defendants Ken Salazar, Bob Abbey, Ron Wenker and the BLM as it asks for an immediate cessation of all helicopter roundups and related activities regarding any and all aspects of actions related to wild horse movement, gathering or roundup as well as any actions involving all the horses in both short and long term holding.  The case has been assigned to the Honorable Judge Hicks who, likewise, is considering Ms. Leigh’s contempt complaint regarding the Tuscarora stampede.

This motion is all about accountability, access, transparency and the First Amendment rights granted to all U.S. citizens under the Constitution.

“This is about the horses, each and every horse. Every individual life that leaves the range matters and is important to the American public. This is not about some bulk inventory and it is about time that the government recognizes that fact. We are not going away. The wild horses and burros are living beings mandated to be managed humanely.” said Maureen VanDerStad of Grass Roots Horse, a nonprofit group based in grass roots activism.  More

Europe to lead world dairy quality standards and welfare, says expert

By Mike Stones , 24-Sep-2010

Europe will set the standard for the world dairy industry, specifically for milk quality and cow welfare, an international dairy expert has told a recent conference in Brussels staged by Pfizer Animal Health.

Ynte-Hein Schukken, professor of Epidemiology and Herd Health at Cornell University, US, told delegates that “Most of the milk produced throughout the developed world will be following the same standards as those set in the EU,” according to UK farm publication Farmers Guardian.

Milk import rules

Speaking at the seminar entitled Are European dairymen making the most of cell count data?, Schukken added that the US dairy industry expects EU authorities to insist on a much stricter interpretation of its milk import rules. Other countries, notably China and India, are likely to follow the lead shown by Brussels.

The likely impact would a fairer, more open world milk market, he said. More

G. Edward Griffin Weighs In On Obama’s Executive Order and Codex!

After Barry Soetoro signed Executive Order #13544 on June 10, I wrote an article titled “Barry Soetoro, Imposter in Chief, Implements CODEX ALIMENTARIUS by Executive Order in the U.S.!” This article was published on June 14, and raised more than a few hackles. It was immediately rebutted on June 26 by Scott Tips of the National Health Federation in a press release titled “The Obama Executive Order – More Healthcare Bureaucracy, but Not Backdoor Codex.

In response to this press release, I provided substantiated proof that my thesis was correct in an article published on July 7, titled “CODEX ALIMENTARIUS: The Elephant in the Room that They Don’t Want You to See.”

Mr. G. Edward Griffin was kind enough to read this response, and agrees with my assessment of our current situation regarding Codex Alimentarius:

A contrary point of view was sent to us from Barbara Peterson, publisher of Farm Wars. In a spirited rebuttal published on her web site, she argued that, although it is true that the executive order does not directly create a framework for Codex, it does so indirectly because it gives federal agencies the power to control food, vitamins, and natural products provided only that they claim their decisions have a “scientific basis,” which is a standard that defies objective definition. She also points out that the federal agencies that will be making these so-called scientific decisions are populated by people who openly are committed to implementing the guidelines of Codex Alimentarius. There can be no doubt that whatever Codex says will be embraced as “scientifically based” by these federal agencies. Therefore, the executive order greases the wheels for the implementation of Codex without ever mentioning the word. READ MORE…

The last gasp of the independent and family farmer: Durbin makes a last ditch effort to sell out American family farms and ranches

The pressure is really on to ram S.510 Fake Food Safety through the Senate.  Democrats know they will most likely lose at least the House in the midterm, but I believe even they suspect they will lose the Senate too. Their corporate donors and investors want this bill passed.  They want an end to all competition from family and independent producers and complete control of the US food production and supply and too many politicians on both sides of the fictional isle owe too many of these big sponsors. They are going to sell us out while railing about how we can’t fix the system unless we pass this bill handing agriculture over to corporations and agreements meant to destroy the last vestige of our economy.  Claiming that the bill is supported by industry (red flag!!), he also claims consumer groups support the bill.  And some do.  But Senator Durbin never mentioned the massive outrage and backlash by the public in general over this obvious corporate coup’ being perpetrated by the District of Criminals.

__________________________________________________________

As a C-Span junkie I can tell you I have seen copious amounts of  political manure spread just as thick as possible during hearings and what is supposed to pass for debates, but today in the Senate, I believe Senator Durbin topped the all time high “BS” mark for this particular pile of political manure.

I could not believe this Senator actually stood on the floor of the Senate and bemoaned the suffering and deaths of American people; people who were sick and dying right at this moment! As a result of S.510 not being passed.  Unfortunate for the Senator was the fact that not one of those he alluded to would have been saved even had S 510 been passed years ago, as this bill does nothing to repair the damage done to the US food supply by the industrialization and centralization of food production and the continual contamination brought into the country hidden in uninspected imports.

For some reason, the Senator believes that harassing family and independent producers by making it impossible for them to remain in business due to mountainous paperwork, redundant and unnecessary regulations, rules and faked “science” while under threats of imprisonment, warrantless search and seizure, a prohibition on judicial review, a complete abrogation of rights, will fix the food system.  He also very carefully avoided any mention of Codex Alimentarius written into the bill, or that little note at the very end saying that the bill could not obstruct any government agreement like CAFTA, NAFTA, GATT and most especially not the WTO.

Add into this his belief that the converting of FDA and USDA into the national food police who don’t even have to have any evidence of wrong doing or of food contamination issues and who would not be bound by any provision of the Constitution or the rights of the people will somehow magically cure the problem of industrialized corporate farming and ranching that is causing illness, disease and massive health problems across the country.  More

The following is a response to my concerns regarding S510 and the enforcement provisions in the regard to the violations of due process and failure to provide just compensation for the proposed takings.  Having watched C-Span testimony on this bill leads me to believe that none of the senators truly understand the impact of the implementation of these bills.  Senator Feingold is an attorney and sits on the house judiciary committee and yet failed to respond to these legal concerns.  Claims of broad based support for these food safety bills is only an indication that there is no cure for stupid.________

Honorable Senators;

The proposed bill S 510 leaves much to be desired in its application from a judicial aspect.  It voids due process of law and equal protection under the law by allowing the administrator only reason to believe to initiate a takings against a food producer in the form of a recall.  It effectively converts the right to produce and share food that has been enjoyed since agrarian societies emerged, into a crime.

Despite claims of food safety it effectuates a furtherance of consolidation of production, to the mega corporations’ advantage by eliminating small producers, raising the potential of tortuous claim for economic advantage.

A formal rebuttal was filed regarding FDA’s claim of interstate authority applying to local production, on the Federal Register, wherein the FDA sought to gain authority for rulemaking and thereby having commenced an action.   Having failed to respond the FDA is therefore in default and has acquiesced by silence to the fact that it has no authority over interstate trade.

Response from Senator Feingold:

Dear Mr. Griepentrog,

Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act and your concerns about the inspection and safety of imported food and food products.

As you know, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced the Food Safety Modernization Act on March 3, 2009.  The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions passed S. 510 on November 18, 2009.  You can find information about this legislation at http://help.senate.gov/, including efforts of Senator Durbin and others to address concerns about the legislation.

On September 24, 2008, I sent a letter to then-FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach expressing my concerns about melamine contamination in Chinese dairy products.  This recent series of contaminations killed several children in China, and sickened thousands more.

I have heard from several Wisconsinites who are concerned about the impact food safety legislation may have on small producers and processors. As the main proponent of a provision included in last year’s farm bill to expand and improve USDA’s office responsible for small farms and ranches, I am particularly mindful of concerns that any of these regulations could unduly burden small farms or interfere with local food systems. That is why I am a cosponsor of S. 2758, the Growing Safe Food Act.  Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) introduced this legislation, which would establish a national food safety training, education, extension, outreach, and technical assistance program for agricultural producers.  This bill would profit NGOs and governmental agencies in the attempt to educate producer about processes we have practiced for decades and is effectively a welfare check for governmental agencies and NGO’s.

I have consistently supported programs like the Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program (RMAP) and the Value-Added Producer Grant program that provide assistance to locally focused and operated enterprises.  I have also heard concerns from some Wisconsinites that food safety legislation would eliminate organic food and regulate personal gardens.  I will keep these concerns in mind should such legislation come before the full Senate.  More welfare programs and a very defined failure to commit on the issue in an election year.

I will continue to support efforts to protect American consumers from unsafe food and products.  Thanks again for contacting me.  I look forward to hearing from you in the future about this or any other matter of concern to you.

Sincerely,

Russell D. Feingold

Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade

Director of Communications, National Organization for Raw Materials

The U.S. has a huge trade imbalance with most trading nations. The imbalance is not in agriculture, although many food products — both raw and processed — enter the U.S. at prices below those for comparable U.S.-grown foodstuffs.

To a large degree the imbalance is in manufactured goods. One reason is that many nations have lower costs of production — based upon a lower standard of living, cheap labor, inexpensive raw materials, protective government policy, etc. Multinationals who have moved their plants to foreign locations enjoy the best of both worlds — inexpensive manufacturing costs and unlimited access to the world’s biggest consumer market, the USA.

Our laissez-faire trade stance, when coupled with many nations’ protective trade stances and the inherent disparity of living standards around the world, is proving to be a recipe for ever-increasing trade deficits. Exacerbating the situation, GATT and NAFTA are proving difficult to implement when other nations improvise phony trade issues and drag their feet at every opportunity. Codex Isn’t Coming, It’s Here!

Why is there so much denial by consumer advocate groups such as the National Health Federation(1) (NHF) about Barry Soetoro implementing the U.S. Codex council via Executive Order(2)? What is it that they don’t want you to see? Just do the research, and you will discover that we have been up to our eyeballs in Codex since 1962 and don’t even know it.

Codex is a subsidiary body of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO). Codex develops international food safety and quality standards, such as standards concerning the safety of food additives. Standards set by Codex traditionally served as a minimum floor for less developed countries. The U.S. has participated in Codex since its formation in 1962 and has shared its technical expertise in efforts to aid less developed countries.

We are being lulled into complacency with declarations that Codex isn’t here yet, not to worry, while the elephant in the room is getting bigger all the time. Here is a quote from an article posted on the NHF site:

While the Executive Order is real, it is not imposing Codex rules on the United States. As NHF lobbyist Lee Bechtel correctly points out, “There is no direct policy link between this Council and Codex, or with the way in which the FDA regulates food and food supplements More

As long as people have access to the free exchange of (Internet) information, the boys behind the curtain will have to keep scrambling.  Their dark side is now common knowledge, thanks to the ‘Net; which simultaneously has exposed the dearth of good men willing to indict these criminals.

The Constitution and the rule of law has been renewed in the minds of Americans who’ve taken the time to inform themselves and grapple with the enormity of the monsters behind the havoc wrought upon humanity for profit.

The bird is on the wing now, though, thanks to the web.

That’s why Oz keeps trying to establish its own laws (codex alimentarius), courts (international), appointed government (in The Hague), and a central world bank and currency (Basel, Switzerland)

Don’t blame them.  I wouldn’t want to be sitting in front of an honest judge or jury either in the U.S., having done what they’ve done.  9/11 would be a good starter.  The evidence is irrefutable. Send the first to prison or the gurney and the canary chorus would sound like a Tabernacle Choir.

The law used not to worry Oz. They kicked an Oklahoma grand juror off the panel who questioned the government’s version of how the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City was brought down. And they obfuscated the Ryder truck bombing of the. . .South Tower was it?  Even when an informant called to let his government handlers know it was going to happen.

No, nary a peep from their propaganda outlets.

No wonder they thought people would fall in line with their 9/11 false flagger; not realizing the cumulative impact the Net was having on people’s minds between “events.”

The Internet is like a good boxer’s jab.  At first it seems unimportant to the scheme of things, but round after round it begins to take its toll on unwary opponents until finally, in the latter rounds, the recipient’s  legs start to wobble. More

The Recession has been over for 14 months, Housing Starts are up 10.5% in August, and all around everything is just “less bad”. Of course the President has relayed this information to us on the same day that he attempted to pay $1 for 4 apples in a Philadelphia Farmers Market.

If ever there was a more fitting example of the return to the Landowner/Serf relationship as in the above NPR article, I’d like to see it. More

Water rights, rainwater, water contracts and the corrupt Bureau of Land Management

A recent article about state governments seizing the rights to rain water off your roof, elicited a comment that almost sounded like it was relevant; until you examined the actual available data.  Because the of the convoluted logic used to make the arguments in this commentary, we felt it necessary to dispel misconceptions many people operate under when it comes to the issue of water rights.  This comment, crafted to look as though the government both state and federal is …..only trying to protect the rights of land owners….is a PR piece; gee….I wonder where this came from?

C.  First, in the western states, water rights are held for the beneficial use by the public and apportioned for use by seniority.

A. At one time this was true, but reinterpretation by the BLM of “public use”, “adequate use” and “beneficial use” have rendered seniority use as a part of property rights, null and void.  This means you have no water rights to speak of; apportioned use is not even a consideration.  Profit is all that matters and many states no longer recognize water rights as belonging to individual land regardless of what the previous statutes and laws were.

Because water is now declared by BLM to be a salable commodity, every effort is made to contract the allocated rights to water, to private corporations for use in strip mining, geo-thermal activities, and for sale to private corporations for diversions to far away places!

These private sellers have first rights to their allocation of water before any water is released to the “public”. On public lands either owned or controlled by the BLM, ALL waters existing above or below the surface belong to and are controlled by the BLM.  They could give a crap if you have water or you don’t.  More

Media duped by Reid’s cries of ‘obstructionism’

Crying “obstructionism” is a tradition for Senate majority leaders, and Harry Reid does it as frequently and piously as anyone. But Reid, with the cooperation of a news media confused by the upper chamber’s rules, has defined “obstructionism” down, and this week is blaming conservative Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., for blocking a bill even though Reid hasn’t even tried to move it yet.

Food safety legislation sponsored by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., would give the Food and Drug Administration sweeping new powers, and thus has spurred fierce opposition from small farmers and local produce advocates, while big food producers support the measure. Coburn has expressed concerns about burdens on small business and the bill’s cost to taxpayers. He’s also argued that the bill multiplies regulatory redundancies and complexity, thus harming effective enforcement.  More

Initially, at the beginning of the H1N1 pandemic consequence management drill there were allegedly 30 maternal deaths.  It was these deaths that the CDC used as the basis to initiate a strenuous and aggressive campaign to vaccinate the pregnant population with the untested H1N1 vaccine.  The CDC ascertained that there were eventually a total of 56 maternal deaths (assuming the fetuses died with them).  More

Outrageous: Minnesota Hunters Released on Sandhill Cranes

Minneapolis, MN – Who’d want to be an animal around us? Horses chased down with helicopters. Geese gassed in New York. And now it’s a sandhill crane hunting season in Minnesota.

Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is turning hunters loose on sandhill cranes for the first time in 94 years, due to the birds exceeding an arbitrary population “goal.” The hunting season, which began September 4th and is scheduled to end on October 10th takes aim at tall, graceful beings with sandy feathers and bright red heads. These birds are known to mate for life, and teach their young to dance to acquire the precision and agility required for their mid-continental flights. But that’s not how Bill Penning of the Department of Natural Resources describes them. Penning says, “I’ve never eaten them, but everyone says they’re delicious.”

Friends of Animals is strongly opposed to the sandhill crane hunting season. The Minnesota DNR bypassed the usual public comment period and released this announcement stealthily, only weeks before the hunting season is scheduled to begin. Hunters will pursue sandhill cranes as they do geese, deploying decoys. Nontoxic shot, we’re assured, will be required. Friends of Animals president Priscilla Feral said, “Minnesotans haven’t hunted sandhill cranes birds since 1916. Why now? Advocates, communicate your views now, before this latest display of human arrogance turns into the newest cycle of torment.”
Please get in touch with the pivotal contacts listed below and let them hear your voice. The sudden, unexpected decision to allow the hunting of sandhill cranes is not based in scientific fact, and as a public department charged with managing public resources, land, and animals, it is completely out of line to make such a momentous change without the public’s consent.

A Different View on The Voting Process

Lynn Swearingen (c) copyright 2010 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Somewhere in North Africa and later on Normandy Beach, my Grandfather’s blood, nerve cells and tears stained the desert sands. Captured as a POW, he spent time considering “What am I doing?” just as we now contemplate the same thing. He joined before the war to have the opportunity to serve his Nation.

My father served aboard the USS Kittyhawk supporting an unpopular war. His blood and fear will forever flavor the deck of that behemoth not by his choice, but by having a number that corresponded with forced service.

Both now rest beyond the touch of our societies ills, but their service has given Americans, Germans, French, Dutch, Swiss, Romanian, Koreans, et al the opportunity to choose the Establishment or the Underdogs. Whether those individuals chose to retain that fortuity became their responsibility.

It may seem that Voting is a dishonorable and disingenuous process at this point in time. The candidates we have to choose from may seem insipid, or in some cases, ignorant – but that is the very reason I vote. It is not a “cast away” vote, not a “lesser evil” vote, and not a vote so that I may complain later.

It is my right bought and paid for by not only my ancestors, but every American who before me said “No.”

No. I will not comply with the Taxes on Tea.

No. I will not comply with the quartering of your troops.

No. I will not stand by and let only men vote.

No. I will not abandon my seat on this bus due to your ignorance.

No. I will not comply with The National Animal Identification System.

No. I will not comply with Real ID.

No. I will not comply.

Votes do make the difference. In 2008, 43% of the populace did not vote.

Let us be blunt. The Republicans who did not vote didn’t believe the American Nation would elect a hardly qualified quasi minority to President. So why should they “turn out”. The Democrats actually increased their “turn out” by 2.4% believing that it was time for “change they could believe in.”

And so we reside almost 2 years from the date feeling even more disenfranchised than ever – no matter what political party one belongs to. Unless of course one is of the “Elite” class.

My vote counts. It may not count to the established system that seems entrenched beyond recovery, but it counts to me.

Vote all you want…the agenda doesn’t change

We vote because we believe it will make a difference.  We vote because we have been carefully steered through fictional ideologies, presented to us as “us against them”, the right v left, Democrat v Republican, liberal v conservative.  It is all a ruse.  Not one of the people who wave the party flags, who promote the party platforms on either side of the fictional isle belong to anything other than the ruling party of the District of Criminals.  This one party system which has a death grip on the country isn’t about to let go; but I’m not voting for any of them.  I’ve decided that I will not vote for the candidate most likely to cause the least destruction just because he or she isn’t quite as corrupted as the pretended opposition.

We have choices between two things….rotten, and not so rotten at the moment.  If those are the only choices I have, I refuse to choose. I refuse to be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.  Evil is evil; changing the face of evil by rotating which faction is center stage, makes it no less malignant.  I will not be forced to vote for candidates I firmly believe are set against us.

We need the choice of voting “no confidence” on our ballots.  We need to be able to prevent anyone who cannot garner at least 50% of the vote, from taking an official office.  We need to end corrupt politicians sitting in office who got only 20 or 30% of the vote.  We need a means to convey our disgust at the lack of honesty, integrity and moral character that a vote of “no confidence” could provide.  And we need to prevent career politicians from nesting up in government on a minimal number of votes.

Regardless of which camp you like to think you are in, voting will simply deliver you more of the same no matter who wins.  Just as the Democrats picked up where the Republicans left off in 2008, the changing of the guard on congress will simply see a continuance of the agenda already in motion.  The Republicans will simply pick up where the Democrats left off.  But you are supposed to believe there is some great and vast difference between the right and left.  We’ll get rid of those nasty Democrats and put the Republicans back in there running things…..yeah….that’ll fix it.  Wait…Weren’t the Republicans the ones who set this mess up during Bush the Lessor’s tenure as Prez?  And, weren’t the Democrats going to ride in to save us from the nasty Republicans? Detailed Concerns with S.510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010

Growing an Already Disjointed and Duplicative Federal Government

In 2008, GAO testified before a House subcommittee that “FDA is one of 15 agencies that collectively administer at least 30 laws related to food safety. This fragmentation is the key reason GAO added the federal oversight of food safety to its High-Risk Series in January 2007 and called for a government wide reexamination of the food safety system. We have reported on problems with this system—including inconsistent oversight, ineffective coordination, and inefficient use of resources.”

Specifically, GAO found that in 2003, FDA and USDA activities included overlapping and duplicative inspections of 1,451 domestic food-processing facilities that produce foods regulated by both agencies. This GAO testimony came on the heels of a 2005 GAO report that identified significant overlap in food safety activities conducted by USDA and the FDA, and to some extent the EPA and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), including “71 interagency agreements [to coordinate overlapping activities] that the agencies entered into… However, the agencies have weak mechanisms for tracking these agreements that…lead to ineffective implementation.”

This overlap was evident in the egg salmonella scare. The Wall Street Journal reported (USDA Graders Saw Bugs and Trash at Egg Producer; Didn’t Tell FDA) that U.S. Department of Agriculture experts knew about sanitary problems at one of the two Iowa farms at the center of a massive nationwide egg recall, but did not notify health authorities.) USDA inspects farms and gives eggs their “Grade A” label, while the FDA technically is tasked with the safety of the final egg product.

This discrepancy was the impetus behind an egg safety rule originally promulgated 10 years ago by the FDA. Unfortunately, three administrations sat on the proposed rule without finalizing and implementing it. FDA Commissioner Dr. Hamburg stated, “We believe that had these rules been in place at an earlier time, it would have very likely enabled us to identify the problems on this farm before this kind of outbreak occurred.” A lack of regulatory bill isn’t the problem.
