GM Alfalfa vs World Health – Update and Judicial Pep Talk!

Farm Wars

As we approach what will be a landmark decision for those of us in an agricultural belt whose main crop is alfalfa, I offer this one plea on behalf of reason, before the final verdict is in:

An Appeal for Common Sense to prevail in the case of Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms, No. 09-475, in which Judge Clarence Thomas is presiding.

Come on Clarence, we know you can do it! You can make the right decision and uphold the ban on genetically modified (GM) alfalfa. The question is, do you want to? After years of bowing to your GM masters, can you make the leap and strike a blow for food freedom?

Any thinking person knows that genetic modification allowed to spread uncontrolled is harmful to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And just how long do you think it will take for the unbridled scourge of anti-biotic resistance given to us by the genetic engineering process itself, to affect someone in your family? The growth of bacteria is exponential! Or, if you are not planning on being around for that, or feel you are sufficiently protected from having to eat what we the people eat, then by all means support Monsanto, just like the Federal Government does:

In its brief on the merits in support of Monsanto, the federal government similarly argues that the Ninth Circuit erred in establishing a presumption of irreparable harm in NEPA cases.” (Scotus)

And don’t fall for that genetic modification as the new “cure for world hunger” baloney. Any thinking person knows that this is merely a good propaganda buzz phrase used for advertising. Genetic modification has nothing to do with curing hunger, but rather everything to do with increasing the bottom line.

The question is, Clarence, WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Corruption: USDA Looks Out Only for Self Interests

(NaturalNews) The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was created in 1889 and has the stated mission of providing for the health and safety of American agriculture while promoting good agricultural practice. It has devolved into an organization whose primary purpose appears to be to protect and defend Big Agribusiness and the profits it brings while ignoring the safety and health concerns it causes.

The latest in the saga of corruption and conflicts of interest to beset the U.S. government`s agricultural oligarchy is President Obama`s appointment of Islam Siddiqui as chief agricultural negotiator for the U.S. trade representative.1 Siddiqui was appointed in a sidestepping maneuver that went around Congress, despite serious concern expressed by citizens, small farm advocates, and organic growers.

Siddiqui is not new to the government game. He was undersecretary in charge of the marketing and regulatory programs of the USDA`s organic labeling standards. These are the same standards that allowed genetically modified (GMO) crops, irradiated foods, and worse to be labeled as “organic.” He also worked hard to convince the European Union to accept both hormone-treated beef and GMO crops.

He is obviously no friend to healthy, natural, beneficial foods.

Thank you to whomever put this together.

For all of you out there in America and across the globe who have fought so hard to tackle the hideous enemy of our planet, namely carbon emissions, that bogus god you worship named “Climate Change” or “Global Warming”,  there is some really bad news that will be very painful for you to process. But it is my duty to pass it on to you anyway.

Are you sitting down?

Okay, here’s the bombshell. The current volcanic eruption going on in Iceland, since it first started spewing volcanic ash a week ago, has, to this point, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet.  Not only that, this single act of God has added emissions to the earth estimated to be 42 times more than can be corrected by the extreme human regulations proposed for annual reductions.

I know, I know…. (have a group hug)…it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up til midnight to finish your kid’s “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, going on vacation to a city park instead of Yosemite, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your $1 light bulbs with $10 light bulbs …well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just the past week.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in the past week has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon.  And, those hundreds of thousands of American jobs you helped move to Asia with expensive emissions demands on businesses… you know, the ones that are creating even more emissions than when they were creating American jobs, well that must seem really worthwhile now.

I’m so sorry. And I do wish that there was some kind of a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the brush fire season across the western U.S.A. will start in about two months and those fires will negate your efforts to reduce carbon emissions in our world for the next two years.

So, grab a Coke, give the world a hug, and have a nice day!

Arizona Has It Right

This column is archived here:

“The first study of the net cost of illegal immigration to American taxpayers was conducted in 1997 by Dr. Donald Huddle, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Rice University. This study concluded that from 1970 to 1997, illegal immigration had cost taxpayers over $69 billion. Obviously, the financial numbers have exploded since then.”

Open borders advocates are livid that the State of Arizona has enacted a new law authorizing State law enforcement personnel to arrest illegal aliens. The Reverend Al Sharpton is threatening to march. The mayor of San Francisco has declared Arizona off limits as a travel destination. The national government of Mexico has issued travel warnings. President Barack Obama is contemplating bringing a federal lawsuit against the State. Some are calling for a boycott of the State.

So, why all the fuss?

The State of Arizona is rightly sick and tired of the federal government’s refusal to protect our nation (and the State of Arizona specifically) from this foreign invasion that is commonly referred to as “illegal immigration.”

In other words, the State of Arizona has said, “If the federal government won’t enforce the law, we will.” I say, good for them! Now, the other border states (Texas, New Mexico, and California) should do the same thing. Arizona has it right, and the vast majority of the American people know it. More

Casting light on spending in Elections

In January, the Supreme Court strengthened corporations’ grip on our government and political process with a dangerous ruling, overturning more than 100 years of election law.

We are part of a group of senators fighting to rein in the increased influence of special interest money this decision will unleash and save our electoral process.

To combat the new, unregulated corporate influence over elections, we just unveiled the DISCLOSE Act — because Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections.

But without your support, our legislation is never going to win the day — we need to build support all around the country, and we need your help to do it.

Click here to go to our website — www.DISCLOSEact.com — and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of this important legislation!

As President Obama has said, the Supreme Court has given “a green light to a new stampede of special interest money.”

But this decision doesn’t just affect elections. It has the potential to change the very way we live in America.

Think about it: When you buy toothpaste now, the money you spend can be used directly for television ads attacking people that you believe in without you even knowing.

We have to respond.

We all have to get in this battle, and we all have to fight it from every angle.

Find out more about the DISCLOSE Act at www.DISCLOSEact.com and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor today!

To rein in the new powers the Supreme Court has given corporations to spend unlimited funds to influence elections, we have come up with a package of reforms that should greatly limit the damage:

  • Make CEOs and other leaders take responsibility for their ads by appearing on-camera to deliver the same “I approved this message” disclaimer that political candidates must make.
  • Enhance funding disclosures so the American people can follow the money.
  • Keep foreign countries and entities from determining the outcome of our elections.
  • Alert shareholders and group members to where money goes.
  • Keep taxpayer money from being spent on political ads.
  • Keep special interests from drowning out the voices of the people.
  • Make sure corporations can’t “sponsor” a candidate.

If you don’t want to see corporations start running away with our elections, then we need you to step up and join us.

Your co-sponsorship will help us pass this crucial bill — add your name at www.DISCLOSEact.com now!

Thanks for your support — together, we can do this.

Sincerely,

Animal Disease Risk

Public Meetings

On February 5, 2010, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that USDA will develop a new, flexible, yet coordinated framework for animal disease traceability in the United States. Under this new direction, States and Tribal Nations must establish the ability to trace, back to their State of origin, animals moving interstate. The new framework will embrace the strengths and expertise of States, Tribal Nations, and producers, and empower them to find and use the traceability approaches that work best for them. The Secretary has pledged to develop this new approach as transparently and collaboratively as possible.

USDA held an initial traceability forum with States and Tribes in March to discuss how to begin creating the framework and gather feedback on possible ways of achieving traceability. USDA is now hosting three public meetings to discuss animal disease traceability more fully and to share the information from the March State and Tribal meeting with industry representatives. Additionally, USDA hopes to obtain feedback on the approaches that were discussed regarding the regulatory framework. More
