I was severely torn today.

In the running for today’s Fool we had Illinois Idiot Representative Phil Hare stating yesterday something to the effect of “I don’t worry about the Constitution”.  It is a stark reminder that the American Media can take actual footage and spin it around until one cannot even determine what is being said.  I include a few articles/video here for everyone to make up their own minds.

Playing Phil Hare’s advocate

Illinois Democrat Phil Hare Doesn’t Care About the Constitution?

Since the majority of our Lawmakers don’t seem to know, much less care what is in the Constitution, I provide this link that one can forward to their offices for remedial education. I especially like the quote at the beginning of the current PDF:

“The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for, among old

parchments, or musty records. They are written, as with a sun beam in

the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself;

and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.”

Alexander Hamilton, 1775

Might be nice if a few more Legislators took that to heart.

Speaking of “musty”, our First place winner for FIA #3 today it the CPSC. In an outstandingly late suggestion released today related to the  “Chinese Wallboard issues (after all the problem became apparent in 2005):

“We want families to tear it all out and rebuild the interior of their homes, and they need to start this to get their lives started all over again,” said Inez Tenenbaum, chairwoman of the commission, the federal agency charged with making sure consumer products are safe.”

Wow. Of course there are discussions of “grants” or loans because some of the houses cannot be retrofitted because they are so far underwater that the cost is prohibitive. According to the CPSC, not only must the drywall be replaced, but also:

“The guidelines say electrical wiring, outlets, circuit breakers, fire alarm systems, carbon monoxide alarms, fire sprinklers, gas pipes and drywall need to be removed.”

How interesting.

Where are those items going to come from? China perhaps? Before one rushes out and procures American drywall products it might enlighten homeowners to know that one of  the largest American Producers is also under suspicion with independent testing showing their product is suspect as well:

But the Brincks claim – and can document – that their home was constructed only with American product that came

primarily from one of the nation’s leading domestic suppliers, National Gypsum

National Gypsum of course denies this and has paid for their own independent testing. CBS News employed Professor Townsend to investigate. His findings?

Several weeks ago, University of Florida professor Dr. Timothy Townsend revealed the results of testing he had done over the course of five months on samples of National Gypsum drywall produced in three states, including Florida. Townsend’s research, conducted on behalf of CBS News, found that sulfur gases were being emitted from the company’s drywall.

Again ignoring the facts in the case, NG has fallen back on the catch phrase “we believe”.

I’ll tell you what I believe. The CPSC has been “investigating” this problem since 2005. Now 5 years later the American people are to blindly follow the suggestion that we rip out the interior of our underwater homes, replace them with new products, and start all over again?

Ah, yes. Where have I heard this before “Change. Change we can Believe in.” New jobs, economic growth, and an increase in the percentage of Americans who qualify for Monopoly Money “grants” making them beholden to the Governmental agencies that got us here in the first place.

Maybe that is Representative Hare’s problem. He lives in a home emitting toxic fumes that cloud his thinking to the point where he cannot reason. He forgets the Constitution even exists. It’s not China’s fault, its not National Gypsum’s fault, it’s not even CPSC’s fault – I know – it’s Bush’s fault! He was president in 2005.
