Open Letter to Congress: www.opednews.com

This article by Kathryn Smith is one of the most lucid arguments against the current state of disarray that is evidenced in our government.  The full article is detailed and lays out the opposing arguments against government fascism and the contrived and fake “War of Terror”…..fully supported by both party’s.

These are a few excerpts from her scathing article:

~ Sometimes we have to question our assumptions. And for you to assume, Congress, that to pass or even to consider laws such as S.1959/HR1955, The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act “and for other purposes”—-WHAT other purposes???—-is to squelch dissent, you are assuming very wrongly indeed. You lie to us that this bill merely “Studies” terrorism, yet propose to have government infiltrators *spy* on our college students, who just so happen to be the most vocal citizen cross-sector in our country.

You say that this bill “Should not” clamp down on civil liberties, yet you set up a Commission of government personnel who themselves will conduct hearings of Americans (like vocal college students) *dubbed* as “Homegrown terrorists“. No judge to check random government power, no citizen jury are proposed in this unconstitutional bill.

Congress, did it ever occur to you that when you step on somebody’s head, they just might rather fiercely object? Do you really believe that by stepping on their mouth you will silence them? My bet is that the mouth will bite your foot—hard too—-because by heaping injustice on top of injustice, you are only going to create the homegrown terrorist wrath which you are trying to squelch in the first place. If a civil war breaks out in America, guess who created it? Mission Accomplished.

~ It’s very interesting to me to see how routinely Congress and this Administration has projected its own shadow onto an entire nation of people. By stating in the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism *Exacerbation* Act “and for other purposes”, that for a citizen “to further his or her religious, political or social beliefs“ through “radical ideologies” and the “use, planned use, or threatened use of violence or force” is illegal, I must say that you, dear Congress, are the most guilty of all parties on this planet.

Under that proposed law, we ourselves could hold you so responsible in court, as could other nations, that it would be a laugh of triumph. I pray for that day to arrive, and the sooner the better! As the Psalmist said, the snare you have set for us will become the snare you will have set for yourselves, and ye shall all indeed be sitting in jail. Bring it on!

~ (Qualifier: I am adamantly opposed to violence. And I radically, strongly and vehemently oppose S. 1959 and HR 1955, in furtherance of my social, religious and political beliefs, not to mention that of our own US Constitution).

~ E) Congress, you are coaching us to hate others based on racial profiling. We hereby stand united, publicly calling the shots for what they are and widely spreading word, thus dismantling your attempts to further your agenda at the expense of innocent people:

~ What of the fact that Bush’s own grandfather was a key person in the Nazi movement, and now we have “the enemy” Muslim, Middle Easterners, Afghanis and Pakistanis as our targets where previously it was the Jews? Sure there are Middle Eastern terrorists, but does that make *every* Middle Easterner a terrorist? Far from it. If so, we would all have been dead long ago. What nonsense this is—and what a brainwash, just as occurred in Nazi Germany! Even Germans themselves have openly said so, themselves. This is not a distorted “take” on the situation, at all.

~ Is it better for you, Congress, to be considered “Soft on terror” or to promote Nazi-like propaganda resulting in shock and awe, torture and war without end, while raping our civil liberties, all for the sake of a cognitive distortion (every Middle Easterner=terrorist) and a blown-up hoax (weapons of mass destruction) ? To think or not to think, that is the question.~Which leads me to my next point.

F) Congress, Bush and Cheney, your hand-and-glove operation to gain world domination is doomed to fail from the start.

Because you see, it’s basic economics. Even someone as uneducated in the area of economics as I, can understand that endless war will result in an economic depression. And finally, as world banks start to bail out our collapsing system in the sub-prime mortgage crisis, it is those other countries who will actually gain domination over us, not the other way around. It takes no brains to figure out that any country may gain domination over another country through economic control. Your quest for world domination is short-sighted indeed.

~ G) Immunity is an illusion:

~ Congress, if Hussein could first be supplied with weapons and then killed by his suppliers for having possessed them, aren’t you yourselves vulnerable to the unconstitutional laws you are passing? What of the Congressman whose office was searched, and the cry of bloody murder which followed—-and yet it was you yourselves who voted for that same law which resulted in that search, ie the Patriot Act? Congress, if you believe you are immune, and your friends and family members too, you are so wrong. Your slave masters will whip you with the very chains with which they promise to hold your enemies. Make no mistake about it. And you know just exactly to whom I am referring.

~ H) The War on Terror is Fake:

~ What of the fact that the terrorist database is now close to one million people? Is the song “Morning Has Broken” by Cat Stevens a terrorist work, and why should a plane be grounded because Stevens was on board and happens to be a Middle Easterner and a Muslim? Should planes be grounded because Buddhists, Jews and Catholics are on board? What of the fact that infants, children, peaceful activists (ie vocal citizens), and only Democrats in Congress (no Republicans) appear on the no-fly list? How much credibility does that lend the war on terror? More likely, people will finally wake up, en masse, and recognize it for what it is: The war OF terror is much more accurate.

Losing Faith in The Democrats

Article appears in OpEd News March 10, 2008

Like many of you, I have a profound sense of betrayal regarding the Democrat’s.  We fought hard to put them in the majority in both houses, most of us believing that once there, the Patriot Act, The Security Enhancement Act, The Military Commissions Act, The John Warner Defense Authorization Act and a host of other anti-American legislation would be reversed.  We really believed that the Democrats would save the day.  We were fools.

Not only have none of these un-constitutional or civil rights violating bills been reversed, we can’t even get the Democratic leadership to acknowledge them; they won’t even talk about them.

Nancy Pelosi set the stage for what was to come, for what we should expect from the new Democratic congress when she announced that “Impeachment is off the table” right after being sworn in as speaker of the house.  Pelosi made this statement knowing full well that the new position she just assumed was due in large part to the belief by voters that impeachment would begin almost immediately.  And it should have.

Henry Reid, who became Senate majority leader, went from his persona as “Givem’ Hell Harry”, to one of docile acquiescence to the Bush regime.  Now, in lockstep with the Bush White House, he and Pelosi have supported many of the demands from Bush.  Neither of them seems capable or able to re-establish congress as a recognizable branch of government.

Although bloggers who seem to be more informed and educated than congress,  and internet news services have reported continuously on the illegality of Executive Orders that have overrun the law, or on Presidential Directives that give the president dictatorial powers, the Democrats have remained silent.  They appear to know nothing.  Presidential signing statements which order departments and agencies to not abide by the new law being signed…….just seem to fade into nothing.

The REAL ID act which was attached to another bill under the “and for other purposes” enacting clause, is intended to result in massive civil unrest come May.  Even with the threats of retaliation from Homeland Security if states do not comply with this unfunded and unconstitutional mandate, the Democrats just can’t seem to bring themselves to repeal this act, much less to debate it.  Not one of them seems to be aware that HSD is strictly prohibited in their enacting charter from ever establishing a national ID of any kind, including designating it as a “domestic passport”.

What about those retaliatory threats from HSD?  Did those just fly under the radar of congress?  Since when does a government agency threaten the citizens with retaliation?  Did any one bother to ask just what that would consist of?  Did anyone inside the golden walls of congress, inside that bastion of political drama stop for one minute and tell Chertof he is out of line?  No….they didn’t.  Again, we were greeted with absolute silence.

Maybe none of this would bother me so much if I wasn’t such a CSPAN junkie.  Watching the house and senate very nearly every day that they are in session, I am struck by the absolute wasting of time spent on congratulating each other on what a fine and distinguished person the other is.  Then there are the declarations of friendship across the isle.  Possibly true…..but who cares?

While Iraq falls into a pile of rubble, while our military puts its collective life on the line in this war of greed for oil…..we have house members taking up valuable minutes (that’s about all they get, which effectively puts a cap on real debate) trying to have some home state notable’s birthday recognized.  We have “debates” on whether or not flag burning is a threat to national security.  We take votes on whether the Boxer Rebellion was significant.  We pass non-binding, nonsensical resolutions against the war.  And then, everyone disappears!  They are all in committee’s somewhere discussing important issues, supposedly.  In the end, absolutely nothing about anything is done of any relevance.  And when the house or senate doesn’t want you to hear their voting, they shut the mike’s off and you are treated to classical music.

After six years of destruction under Republican rule our Republic is barely recognizable.  The changes we so desperately hoped for with a change in leadership are not going to happen.  We are still being assailed by the illogical fallacies promoted by the Bush fascists.  Too many of us still believe that giving up our liberty will somehow magically prevent acts of terrorism and even more of us cannot grasp the idea that sending our military to war to fight for freedom (a lie) is negated by our willingness to forfeit freedom at home.

In the end, it may be time for a third political party to form; one not afraid to rock the boat, to shake up the status quo.  We need individuals who not only know what the problems are but who are willing to speak about them and fight to repeal these insidious attempts to dismantle our country.

The day of the Republicans is over.  Even they know it.  At this point in time 21 have resigned from cabinet positions or have resigned or are not seeking re-election in the house or senate.  Career politicians jumping ship and running like the rats they are.  But we have to ask ourselves if what we are left with after this bailing out by Republicans is any more beneficial to us than if they stayed?  Quite frankly, as things stand now, I would say, no.

OPT out of REAL ID

I cannot begin to tell you how concerned I am at this overreaching on the part of our Government.  It is as if there were no Bill of Rights, indeed, no Constitution at all.

The Real ID act requires all states to establish a federally directed driver’s license to include a laundry list of personal information in electronic form that will be shared across states.  Without the license, there will be no driving, no entry to public buildings, no flying – nothing the federal government cannot control.

The REAL ID act IS the monitoring of all US citizens creating a massive database of information on every citizen.  It has NOTHING to do with national security – (the new catch phrase used to cover every act the government implements to take away our rights) – it has everything to do with the illegal data mining done on legal, law-abiding citizens.  If national security were the real issue, our southern border would have been secured long ago.

By its own admission, the government can now spy on us online without us even knowing they are there, open and read our mail, enter our homes without a warrant, search and obtain records on medical, financial, employment, and even the books we check out from the library.  But now, suddenly, they can’t know who we are unless we subject ourselves to the REAL ID.  And WE can’t board a plane, get on a train, enter a Federal building, or even obtain our Social Security unless we submit to this invasion? Please do what you can to stop the REAL ID travesty of “homeland security.”

We’re All Americans

If you were thinking “Why should I write to a representative of a state I don’t even live in?,” consider that we’re all in this together.

As one of the founders of our republic once said when the republic wasn’t even a reality yet, “Gentlemen, we must all hang together or we will most assuredly hang separately.”

That applies equally today, when we are faced with the extinction of the republic those brave patriots pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to protect. In that light, what is writing to the governor of another state, really?

So, that’s what I did:

“Governor Schweitzer, I want to thank you for your courageous stand against the fascist Real ID Act, even though I’m a citizen of Oklahoma, which, fortunately, has some representatives with the common sense, courage and patriotism to see through this attempt to pave the way to martial law and to stop it in its tracks. My complements to your efforts to save our great nation, sir. Thank you.”

Now it’s your turn.
