The story may be tragic, however this is a classic example of “how things work”.
During times of “crisis” we all bond together as a Nation acting as one to ensure we don’t “end life on this planet” by reducing a bloated budget, get over our personal Tea Party ideals to stop “Terrorising” the Nation after returning from Mordor, and finally just hand over the blank check to “those who know best”.

“It’s not like the Brothers are standing on the street corner next to the other purveyors of illegal goods whispering “Psst. Buddy, wanna’ buy a casket…”
Legislators have discussed the “Underground Casket” issue in the past with the most recent bill being SB 613 introduced this year by State Senator Thompson, but apparently the Funeral Lobbyist Movement keeps blocking bills introduced.
A state representative in 2008 introduced a bill amending the law to permit nonlicensed funeral directors to sell caskets. This spring, a state senator attempted to sponsor a bill that would exempt the monks from the licensing requirement. Both measures were defeated after funeral directors and industry lobbyists opposed it.
It’s hard to argue with the guy who’s going to make you look “peaceful” for your final journey I suppose. No one wants to go out looking well – dead – not “slumbering in eternal Bliss”.
Just remember, if you see an illegal-casket-selling Monk standing on the corner down there in Covington, LA just say “No”.
