Iowa!
Iowa is following in Florida’s footsteps and working on passing a bill making it a criminal offense to film or photograph the abuse of animals on farms or in commercial CAFO operations. Apparently it is ok to abuse your animals, to leave them in fetid conditions, or to treat them inhumanely…..Iowa just doesn’t want you documenting that abuse.
Nine House Democrats joined all of the Republicans present to pass the bill in a 66 to 27 vote on Iowa bill H.R. 589.
Turns out your video camera or camera are now considered lethal weapons…the stuff of terrorism!
In an effort to protect industrialized CAFO operations, and unscrupulous corporate growers, Iowa is standing up to those activist citizens who document the abhorrent conditions on industrialized farms and ranches and also in some privately owned operations, claiming this somehow interferes with, or tampers with the property of another.
11A. “Record” means any printed, inscribed,
visual, or audio information that is placed or stored on a
tangible medium, and that may be accessed in a perceivable
form, including but not limited to any paper or electronic
format.
This means anything recorded on your film or camera that would adversely affect the profits of the person committing the abuse. This includes, video’s, stills, pictures captured on your cell phone or any other documentation.
d. Disrupt operations conducted at the animal facility,
if the operations directly relate to agricultural production,
animal maintenance, educational or scientific purposes, or
veterinary care.
IF your pictures highlight the abuse, unsanitary conditions or what is referred to as educational or veterinary…..meaning drug testing, experiments, vivisection research, dissemination of disease for “research” or other inhumane activities under the guise of Education or scientific,……you too could be a unique terrorist with a camera. Animal maintenance is the catch-all phrase that covers abusive treatment, mistreatment, unsanitary conditions and lack of care.
And here is the coup de’ gras
Sec. 9. NEW SECTION. 717A.2A Animal facility interference.
1. A person is guilty of animal facility interference, if
the person acts without the consent of the owner of an animal
facility to willfully do any of the following:
a. (1) Produce a record which reproduces an image or sound
occurring at the animal facility as follows:
(a) The record must be created by the person while at the
animal facility.
(b) The record must be a reproduction of a visual or audio
experience occurring at the animal facility, including but not
limited to a photographic or audio medium.
(2) Possess or distribute a record which produces an image
or sound occurring at the animal facility which was produced as
provided in subparagraph (1)
(3) Subparagraphs (1) and (2) do not apply to an animal
shelter, a boarding kennel, a commercial kennel, a pet shop, or
a pound, all as defined in section 162.2.
Wouldn’t the more prudent thing to do here have been to enforce animal cruelty laws? How about all those fake food safety regulations? Would it be too much to ask that a higher, safer standard of animal care be enforced?Rather than criminalizing those who expose the corruption and abuse that occurs routinely in these facilities.
This bill, like so many others we are seeing from the Republican’s is a direct assault on your first amendment rights; your right to free speech. They’ve already attacked workers rights, your right to alternative healthcare and now they want to stop you from documenting the corruption and abuse in corporate farming and livestock operations.

YES! Corporate protectionism is alive and well in Iowa! And why wouldn’t it be? This is Tom Vilsack’s home turf, a man, who if he was any closer to Monsanto and other bio-pirates would most likely have to give them their own key to his place. Apparently they already have the keys to Iowa.

Ok folks, you are not going to like this one…. I live in Okanogan County in Eastern Washington state. Cattle country…. a few years ago, late at night, we were coming home up a cold and snowy country road in the middle of fifty miles from nowhere…….in twenty below zero plus weather.. We came across a truck sitting in the middle of the road, it was blocking our lane.. it was.. a cattle butchers mobile rig….. they were using a winch with a long steel cable to pull dead bloated partly eaten by critters……frozen cows from out in a field… up to the truck for processing……..it made me sick….. I don’t think it was a rendering plant truck ( a note here… rendering trucks look a lot different… and they pick up all kind of dead horses, pigs, cows critters of all kinds…road kill, deer etc… they take the bodies to rendering plants to grind up the mess… steam cook it down to it’s liquid and into a gaseous state…. and then suck off the lighter fractions of oils… and… get this… they make ladies make up like lipstick out of it…….. gag……..), it was a butchers truck….. meaning… the meat is more than likely going to market….. Now, I do still eat meat…. but… I buy only locally grown young 11 to 12 month old cows where I always know the grower, and I have them shot right in front of me…. and they have no drugs, hormones or open sores etc. etc. and the cows were raised at about four-thousand feet eating free range feed, allways above most of the pollution you have lower down the mountain from pesticides and herbicides…. and everyone who drinks the water down there, or eats their apples… etc. are covered with. Even with this care, my wife still died of cancer… Mulilple Myeloma……. eighteen months ago……. I don’t pretend to know all the answers…. but…. we have to start somewhere……. Any law that makes hiding a crime is not one bit valid and those bastards know this…..and to hell with any court that supports that garbage……. Keep your guns in reach and keep’em oiled boys…. you may end up needing them very soon….. And, to those people in law enforcement that read this stuff in order to follow our so called home grown terrorists…… keep this in mind… you and your family are already eating this same swill too……
Remember, if they pass enough laws, we all become law breakers very fast… and, at the point, they can do what they want to you and yours…… you and your families are all involved weather you like it or not…….. the bigger your national or international company is that you buy your food from, the more likely its coming from such a foul supplier……… Profits before safety is their motto……. and what the suckers don’t know about wont hurt them…..

I do have to say that it is obviously not SOLELY a Republican effort to take away this right, but it is very sketchy. I believe that this bill, if it doesn’t pass in the Senate, should be taken to the Supreme Court to be ruled unconsitutional.

I have the answer to Iowa’s abominable anti-whistleblower law regarding animals. I applied it way back in 1968, when I Woke Up and “smelled the roses.” I stopped eating the flesh of animals because I realized that I had been taught to do it in my ignorance. Nobody needs to eat animal flesh. People eat flesh because they have been turned on to the putrid taste. Before I stopped eating flesh I consulted with half a dozen doctors. They, and everybody around me, told me emphatically that I would DIE! Today, I am one of the healthiest people alive for any age and those doctors are dead. I am 71 and can labor beside any man all day any day. I am one of the strongest men I know. I am in the top ten percent of all healthiest people. Vegetables assimilate 100% more cleanly than animal flesh. Plus, and most important, my conscience is clean, as exploiting other animals for food is abominable. How would you like for you and your children to be slaughtered and eaten by beings stronger and smarter than you?
I think it has little with documenting abuse and more to do with that fact that our food supply is compromised and continues to be. They don’t want someone documenting an animal that is obviously ill or even dead being shown as they drag it to the slaughter-house.
Worse yet, maybe they have already started producing “soylent green.” In the immortal words of Charlton Heston, “people are soylent green!”

In 2008, 180 countries declared that their citizens have a fundamental right to food. Only one country voted against this rudimentary right. Can you guess which country that was?
How can the proclaimed land of the free and home of the brave justify such a mean spirited decision? And is it in the best interests of their citizens or in the best interests of someone else?
Instead the United States made it’s intentions perfectly clear and voted against the right to food for it’s citizens. There is no right to food in the USA, nor is there any right to food legislation pending. Pretty simple isn’t it?
American Whiskey distilleries started production in the US after whiskey imports stopped with the war of 1812. Alcohol production resulted in large amounts of wasted grain. Distillery waste disposal represented a major expense. This distilleries waste by product was called swill or slop.
Now what to do with this chemically altered waste? Why not feed it to the cows? Get rid of the garbage by feeding it to the cows!
Cows are biologically equipped to graze on grass, they do not naturally eat corn or grains. They had to be forced to eat this smelly slop.
Sadly feedlot cattle are still being fed this slop. That’s 16 million tons of distiller waste being fed to beef and dairy cows in the US in 2010. Wrap your head around that fact!
